IllllllilllHlllllitiitfiliillllllllllllIPQQIIIIIIMHS,IIIIZYIHIIIilllllliiatifiilllllIIHHIIIIIHill plays. As for her team mate, Jack, it is useless to describe her efforts, however, greased lightning does fairly welll. Gib made the various coaches and the audience sit up and take notice when she juggled. ' This victory brought us up against Guttenburg at 7:30 that evening-Jesup iwas rated as a strong team and when Guttenburg defeated them-everyone was sure that Manchester would meet their doom. It was the fastest and best game of the season, each member was in her best stride and played to win. Keenest of all, there wasn't a solitary personal or technical foul called on any member of our team in this fracas. Judy won a name as being an expert co-operator, and excellent feeder with lots of fight. Little wonder Guttenburg didn't make more baskets with Hooshie and .Smitty constantly in their way. Never before have these two guards been seen to have such perfect team work. They successfully worked their signals and impressed the audience with their out of bounds plays. The final whistle echoed a 30-18 victory in their ears, and they lacked but one thing to cap the climax of their rejo-icing, that was the home gang and Ogg's Coffee Den. The M. H. S. lassies, not being accustomed to such a strenuous schedule, were almost fagged out for the Oelwein game. Mebbe it was too many rides on the elevator at the Mealy, who knows? The Oelwein-Manchester game was said by the two officials to have been the fastest game of the tournament. Gib took a. wicked 'tumble and fell backward, cracking her head, which threw her phenomenal orbs off their focus. Lucille and Virla, when subbed, went into the center with the ole'- battle light gleaming in their eyes, but were hardly given a chance to warm up before the final gong sounded, closing us out in our first defeat-still I2-22 isn't to be scoffed at when we consider that Oelwein beat the much famed XVest Union team by a larger margin. Manchester is truly proud of this team and they cannot be given too much praise. Personnel Jumpin Jehosophatt didn't have anything on June Haeussler, capable cente1'. She very seldom allowed the otl1e1' center to get the tip off. Her passes were accurate and well placed, but best remembe1'ed is her ability to spot the ball and intercept a good share of the opponents' passes. Jack Farwell is one of the firmest bricks in the foundation of the girls' team. 'Without her, some of the successes might have toppled over into belated defeats. Jack be nimble! Jack be quick! Applesaucel Jack VVAS nimble! and Jack WAS quick! Even that is insufficient praise for her. Quick on the passes, and a heady player. That's herl Next? Our Shooting Star. No need for questions, everyone kuolws we mean Gibby, She had a deadly pair of orbs, and arched the prettiest baskets anyone would care to see, from all angles of the floor, too. Her brain moved as fast as did her feet, and she surely was some shark at pivots and juggles. She will always be recalled as one of the best forwards to ever shoot a basket on M. H. S. floor, making 46 points in one game. , , . Speedy team mate of Gib's and also a sure shot was Judy. A gem of a forward who has just this yea.r come into the lime light of basketball glory. It was partly due to Judy's quick and precise feeding that their average points scored ranked so high. Lots of the old Clemans' spunk and pep. On one end of the door, you can behold our Shooting Stars, while on the 'tother, you su1'vey the Guarding Stars. Smitty, dependable and steadfast as Old Faithful, seldom plays a poor game of basketball. Speedy, swift, flashy, brainy, all those apply to her. ' Right this way boysl The human flytrapf' Anyone would be extremely thick between the ears if he couldn't realize they were announcing Hooshie. Even if she did open her mouth when preparing to catch the ball, we observed that she never missed it. Hooshie always tried her level best and when her ole' fight was stirred up, ye forwards beware! She and Smitty, shared this year's captainship. My size? says Delva, Oh don't let that worry you! .She's right at that. This midget forward was quick er'n-a-wink and ran circles around her tail guard from Guttenburg. K She specializes in pivots. With Virla Lane coming back next year to M. H. S. the future need not hold any fear. Although this was he1' first year, she knows the game of basketball and we forecast an exceptional record, for her and Smitty next year. ' Handy Mandy, should have been Lucille's sobriquet. That talented young Miss can play either position in the center and make a go of it. Geel She sure does sling a classy game of basketball. Luci,Ile's one bitter regret was her traveling, which she probably learned from Van Auken. Here is one who has been constant and regularly at basketball practice every night since a. Freshie in High School. Viola, our jumping center, with plenty of spring in her jump, has sure deserved her letter. Viola says little but does much. Twenty-one
