S. life which is a culminating event leading up to the climax when we reach the goal next spring and our marathons receive their laurels 011 graduation day. Three-fourths of the race has been run and a.long the course we have left numerous members Who have failed to train and who have failed to show strength to continue the race. Thus the Junior class has come to the end of the third post of the cou1'se and like all historians, must look back with only a knowing eye tllltl'f01'Wfli1'li with both hope and mis- givings. This race we have run is unique in that the start is the finish, the entrance is the. exit. That. which we have received has been given us within the narrow confines of this institution. The Junior class ha.s been well represented in every phase of school life that has surrounded us. Our boys have won places on the football team, and both boys and girls on the basketball teams. Our class has supported the school in all tests of skill and endurance, and they have not been found wanting. 0ur members have represented the school in acts of declamation and have in numerous instances emerged with credit to themselves and to the class. This class will enter on the last lap of the course with renewed vigor. Previous to this time we have plodded along slowly by degrees, but now we have received our second wind. Know- ing that those who have gone before us have left their names indelibly written in the history of the school, we too will emulate their example and do our utmost to uphold the honor of the class and the institution. It will be our a.i1n to leave by the exit that was once only an entrance, four years older, a. thousand years wiser and fairly well informed in the duties of citizens. Eight

lllllllllllIIIllllitiikiltillllllllllllI!Q?QIllllMH5pIIIlfiillllllHIIIIEQEQIESQIIIlllllllllllIlllll Sophomores ef Good men are scarce and we are only in the making of such for we realize that, after having completed half the course of this High School, it will take still another year before we reach the age of consideration However, a few of us forced outside attention by entering school activities, and the credit gained thereby is the more important since we have been handicapped by both inexperience and youth. Most of us have found, in our many colorful experiences of the past two years that we are but half wise, and tha.t one in order to be a power a.nd force in any connnunity or organization must be drilled in the severe school of experience. Therefore, we do not feel that we need alibi our failures for we are certain that due consideration will be made for our position a.s the second year class of this institution. However, looking forward to our two remaining years of High School, We realize tha.t some one must take the place left vacant by the Juniors, who, due to the process of evolution and scheme of affairs, will advance to the rafting of Seniors. We contemplate the time when we too will reach the last and highest class in the school. Our aim, to work hard and acquire that knowledge and experience without which we could not hope to succeed, will be ever the same. Our purpose in High School is duo-first, to extract from its courses all the good that they contain so as to depart with the makings of capable and intelligent citizens a.nd second, to discover and develop our abilities. Leaders have already begun to emerge from the chaos of first and second year activities. These will be joined by ma.ny more who have but to find themselves. This class realizes that leaders are not created by accident but a.re developed by experience and consequently we are proud to acknowledge that this class contains timber tha.t can be hewn to meet places of leadership which carry unusual responsibilities. Our motto will be Ever Onward and Upward and our eyes will ever be focused upon the places of honor and respect that this institution so willingly grants to those who qualify. Tc 71.
