Lsxov Koi-ILER The club, under the supervision of Mr. Boyer, has been relatively inactive this year, because most of its members now belong to the larger club of Uncle Sam. They are, however, writing letters to the boys in the service, keeping them informed of the activities in the school. Page 40 SR. HOME ECONOMICS -M-Q-.gg-wma-an-q. LADY SPITFIREH Lady Spitfire was the title of the play presented by the Senior Class of the Manchester High School in the school auditorium February lUth and 12th. It was a comedy in three acts by Katharine Kavanaugh under the direction of Ellen O. Pfaltzgraff. The action of the play centers about the unpredictable exploits of Kay Sutton, an untamed and spoiled young girl. She has always de- lighted in posing as another person, but when, her identity unknown to others, she poses as herself, she becomes less and less spitfirey. There are a near elopement, a grand party scene, and several hilari- ously funny incidents before everything is finally cleared up, and Lady Spitfire cools off in the arms of Tom, her tamer. THE BELLS OF THE FUTURE By PHYLLIS L1v1Ncs'roN Proclaim the tidings, ye bells of joy, Echoing distinctly, and pealing afar: Forty-four's seniors are eager to embark, Led on by courage, their guiding star. A great task is yet to come As we venture on life's broad way, In every new task may we succeed, And fresh hope and vigor always display. Time taught us how to achieve In wider fields, honor and noble deeds: To march on and meet new issues, Turning to the road where triumph leads. Faith and valor help us to strive Along the path marked in the Infinite Plan, Endeavoring to attain to the highest degree, As always since our four-year cruise began. We had our sorrows and laughter Reflecting like a mirror of timeg And through the years we witnessed Moments serene, prosperous and sublime. But now, the Bells of the Future are waiting: Waiting to be rung by the Ropes of the Past. Seniors, let us hasten to take up the summons Until we hear the sweet benediction Well done at last. CLASS SUNG Tune- Deep Purple Now our school days are o'er, And our start in life begun. So farewell to the schoolmates we knew and loved. In our future we'll think of them, Oft be homesick for them, Till life's long journey is done. In the past we have had Many trials and hardships, too. But our high school days shall ne'er from us depart. Through the midst of a memory School days will always be Dearest and best in our hearts. We shall never forget How we'd dread to hear the bell When the sun was bright and spring had come again, Or assemblies we used to hold, Stories we loved and told, Ever with us shall remain. Our whole life shall be changed, And our goals in life attained. Future citizens and leaders we will be. But where'er we may chance to roam, Our thoughts shall turn to home And our old school's memories. By Donorav E. SHANK Page 56 1940-1941 RED LETTER DAYS Aug. 26-We entered the halls ot M. H. S.
