MANCHESTER HIGH SCHOOL Manchester High School has experienced a phenomenal development from the small two-year high school founded in 1908 with classes in Man' chester Fraternity Hall, to the present large structure with over two hundred twenty-five students, and eleven teachers. The present building was completed in 1926. Two large additions were added to the original building in 1936 and 1937 respectively, offering adequate gymnasium facilities to the student body. At present the school offers courses as follows-Academic, Commercial, Home Economics, General and Agricultural. Manchester High School trains its graduates to develop into useful citizens by placing emphasis both on the curricular and on the extra-curricular activi- ties. Among student publications and organizations are-the student hand book, The Orange and Black, the student newspaper, The Echo-Log, the senior annual, Les Memoiresf' Opportunity for character development is offered by the Hi-Y and Girl Reserve Clubs and The Student Council. The school likewise has maintained an enviable record of victories in athletics although fair play and good sportsmanship are stressed more than athletic victories. Prof. Scott Knaub, Assistant Superintendent of schools, was principal of the high school from 1908 to 1931. ln 1931 Prof. Chester H. Royer was elected Supervising Principal of the Manchester schools-a position which he has very capably filled until the present time, Mr., Allen Beshore is the present president of the Manchester Board of Education. We embarked on this trip in thirty-seven, Upon entering the Freshman class, We were carefully examined by the custom officials, And then solemnly given a pass. The first stop made was at Sophomore port, Where we remained for another year, Meeting the winds of study and toil, And battling them all without tear. Then came the wreck on the island of Iuniors. What a year that turned out to be! With its heartaches and troubles, it really was awful, But it ended quite joyously. Now approaching the end of our voyage, We're gliding thru our Senior tests. The lantern in the lighthouse grows brighter, May We anchor in the port of Success. M. C. E. SCHOOLMATES Tune Sailing We were launched tour years ago And where We'll anchor we don't know So We hope that our careers Will last lor many happy years. We hope that on our journey 'cross lile's sea To all our problems, we can lind a key. So here's to the seniors! May each one be a success, We'll anchor at a port where we will find the best. Schoolmates, schoolmates, in parting we will say, When you start your lite-long voyage Choose a cloudless day. Try your best at everything you do, Don't forget that '41 is wishing luck to you. B. M.
