Wayne, Indiana Table of Contents Introduction 4 Students 14 Organizations 62 Athletics 110 Activities 134 Faculty 158 This year, as Manchester College observed her sev- enty-fifth year as an institution of higher learning, we were reminded of many traditions of our institution. Some forgotten traditions were revived, new tradi- tions were strengthened, and old traditions were carried on. And, as does every observation of an anni- versary, our seventy-fifth year inspired a beard- growing contest. ' ' ' gk. ' -JWiUii ; 1 Many signs of progress were evident throughout the year. Cleaning and re-landscaping certain of the old buildings, tearing down other old buildings, and the completion of the new wing to East Hall and the new maintenance building all went together to change the face of our college. i?K k T m jgS ■■■ ili JHi m iHi nn m The fulfillment of the March of Progress goal a million more by sixty-four , marked the day wh( n the student union became more than just a dream m the minds of a few people and the new library came closer than ever before to being begun. - ' •r.: ' ' • • y y ' .. ' ,- ' .-. ' - • But the changes on campus weren ' t limited to the elimination of old buildings and the erection of new ones. A new student generation arrived bright and eager one September afternoon. They were greeted by upper- classmen called Campus Pals, who had already ar- ranged a fiendishly tight schedule to get them suffi- ciently worn out for the beginning of classes. Freshman Initiation reached new heights this year when the girls began a new tradition by initiating the freshmen in a candle lighting ceremony on the mall. After going through the traditional M. C. registration lines, we were ready to face anything, including a year of classes. This was a good year for folk singers on campuses across the nation, and our campus was no exception. The Hootenannies, Brown ' s Coffee House, and chapel programs by Mr. Jamison inspired new respect for and love of folksinging. Each group of students who got together to relax and entertain with their singing seemed to inspire another new group, and before long, the whole campus was singing. This was also a good year for sports, as our teams had their first winning seasons in both basketball and foot- ball for several years. 10 The social life of Manchester College soared to new heights this year as more all-school movies were pre- sented, Brown ' s Coffee House was initiated, and parties were held m the Oakwood Social Room and in the East Hall Social Room. ' ■) ' ■■ ' } ' -: :- ' V-: • ' I , L But most of the time we spent doing the routine things that keep college students busy: labs and classes, i■y:v l v- v vr V ' i:;.- V cleaning our rooms. talking over coffee in the Oaks, and thinking about vacations. 12 And yet, this year was much Uke any other year. Al- though we look forward to still more progress in the next few years, we are mindful that the student ' s life doesn ' t seem to change from year to year; the classes, chapels, programs, and dorm sessions go on, and favorite subjects of conversation are still the lack of activity on campus and the weather. 13 L n L ] 1 1 FKESHMAN CLASS OFFICERS - President - Verl Myers, Vice- PmiJiMi ■ Dean Grove, Secretary - June Zuck, Treasurer - Lin Butler J f lArry Adam George Addison Karen Allen Emily Annan Freshmen Bruce Apbn Gene Apple Wayne Augenstem Cozette Baker Barbara Baldwm Cheryl Bandelier Robert Barkley wT f-= J T p - kik.
