To the right, Chuck Meiser makes one of the key maneuvers, his long slender body straining to put the ball through the hoop. Although Manatee had an 8-8 record at the time of publication, with team work and precise ball han- dling, Manatee was expected to improve greatly by the end of the season. The Lancers, utilizing a fast offense as their basic strategy, averaged 78.6 points per game. Head basketball coach Tom Garcia, former basket- ball player at Florida State University, worked with the team long hours after classes to build a closely knit team which performed with precision and ac- curacy at each contest. With ten games remaining to be played, the Lancers had to beat Brevard and Orlando for a spot in the upcoming state tourney. With Manatee improving all the time, the team should have very little difficulty in posting victories over these two opponents. All in all, the Lancers played a fine season with no regrets, only memories.
