Back Row: M. lohnson, T. Sons, and R. Stover. Chess Moves Onto Campus Throughout the country an interest in the intellectual game of chess has risen. Many people studied the uncanny moves made by young Bobby Fischer, declared world champion, when he opposed the Russian Boris Spassky. Interest in chess is just as strong on our campus. The Chess Club meets every Enrichment Day to learn and play the game of chess. The club is divided into, three classes-advanced, intermediate, and beginner's. A tournament, which lasted the whole school year, was held in each class and the winner of each tournament was awarded a trophy. The club wishes to challenge other schools in the future. Jr. Exchonge lr. Exchange Paints Building Besides the regular duty of raising the flag in the morning, the Exchange was involved in many other activities. The club began the year with a contribution to the community when they painted the Headstart building. During homecoming week they held a unique pickle-eating contest and were in charge of the bonfire. Both helped to boost the morale of the team and students. Also they sold pizza at the fair as a money-making project. The Exchange's participation in activities displayed their school spirit. OFFICERS President ............. ........ Distributive Education Alanna Heil carefully measures a piece of cloth for a customer. DE Offers job Opportunities Many job opportunities are located by DE for those students who wish to work mainly in retail sales. Students gain job training which will help them to continue in jobs after graduation. The members must work a minimum of fifteen hours per week at their job. The DE Club, along with the other business clubs, attended the annual employer-employee breakfast. The club also held a banquet at which awards were given for over-all academic improvement, participation in DE Club activities, and perfect attendence 'at all activities.
