Home Economics Department Bachelors Plan Their Meals Sewing, cooking, and cleaning were the principle skills taught in the Home Economics program. The enrollment included not only girls but also boys. Bachelor Survival, a class offered to senior males, taught all the essentials for living a bachelor's life. A variety of classes such as Food and Nutrition, Clothing and Textiles, Human Development, and Housing Services were available to all interested students. Each course was instructed at great depths for the benefit of the student, allowing them to achieve a better understanding of today's modern world. Debbie Ackles watches Miss Pat Couts as she demonstrates how to section an orange. Harvey Archie, under the watchful eye of Debra Hutchincon, cuts out a pattern for slacks. l 86 Myra Kiefhaber prepares to bake some cookies in her Home Economics class.

Students learned these essentials through simulated and actual driving experiences. Another project of these classes was accident analysis. Through this procedure, students learned what to look for in order to avoid the possibility of an accident. Since becoming a requirement for those who wish to be licensed at sixteen, driver's education has become the non-academic class with the largest enrollment at MHS. To meet state requirements, students had to spend at least six hours driving and thirty hours in the classroom. To aid in understanding traffic rules, the gy ' L magnetic traffic board was used. kj 'J i Mr. Gilbert lack is horrified as Debra Pruet displays her natural talent for driving. 188 iD.
