English Department Writers Visit Desert Island A visit to a desert island was made by Creative Writing students through the use of their pens. Although Creative Writing was not a new course, many of the English Department's mini-courses were. Students could take drama, debate, mythology, and mass media. For freshmen, grammar came alive in the form of Social Competency. Sophomores found enjoyment in studying the anecdotes of celebrities like Flip Wilson, while juniors were urged to work diligently on their term papers. Seniors portrayed fourteenth century Englishmen from Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. Speech students, concentrating on the outdoor life, learned of golf and sailing in demonstration sessions.
