Junior Varsity Football Baby 'Canes Score High The l.V. football team had its second consecutive winning season with a 6-2 record. Coach john Ensor, with a tvvo-year 13-3 mark, commented, We started off the year with a few fundamental problems, but as the season progressed, these problems were ironed out. He also stated that four players scored 30 points or more. Bryan Geurin and Vincent Dawes with 36 points each, john Burch with 32 points, and Ricky Garrison with 30 points led a high scoring backfield. Varsity Football 'Cane Players Gain Honors The highly successful Manatee football team was lead by many hardworking players and coaches. Twelve 'Canes were named to the Manatee County All-Star team and Coach Calvin Short was tabbed as Coachof the Year. The offensive players were Lee Piper, Ed Dick, james Evins, O. j. johnson, Mickey Bellamy, Alvin Smalls, and Frank Hiskes. The defensive players were Mike johnson, jim Frith, Rock Fleming, james Bacon, and Anthony johnson.
