Nike Nike Washes Blackboards Nike, who was the winged goddess of victory in Greek mythology, was the name of a newly formed club concerned with service to the community. Nike was opened to all girls who were interested in contributing their time and effort toward improvement of their environment. The club was sponsored by the Manatee Chapter of the Business and Professional Women's Association and worked on such projects as a Christmas candy cane sale and a blackboard wash. Maynard. layteens Help Needy Children The main project on the jayteen's calendar was the Toys for Tots Telethon, an event held in Decem- ber to buy Christmas toys for needy children. The layteens, a service club and a branch of the Bradenton laycees, helped sponsor a rummage sale and a children's olympic games for those children who were mentally handicapped. A tootsie roll sale was also held in front of the north and south campus cafeterias for a layteen banquet which was to thank the laycees for their help on special projects.
