Future Farmers FFA Plows Through Year Carl Rhodenbaugh's work paid off when his steer, Mousey, won a Grand Champion Award at the Manatee County Fair. The steers which were entered in the fair were bought in August and taken care of at the ag field. Besides raising steers, the members also grew strawberries, which they sold to the public. Tomatoes, lettuce, and onions were also grown. The purpose of FFA was to pre- pare the boys to become better farmers. The members received instructions on new farming techniques from both agricuture teachers, Mr. Henry Hewitt and Mr. Frank johnson. OFFICERS President .............. ....... Pep Club Ella Mae Glover, Phyllis Lang, Sharon Gavin, and Vickie Hudson cheer excitedly with other Pepsters at a football game. Pepsters Aid Peace Corps One of the most unified groups of students at MHS was the Pep Club. The one hundred strong group was headed by Mr. Thomas Orehowsky, adviser, who aided the club in all their efforts. They strived to attend all the different sports events both near and far. On one occasion while the club was traveling to the first away football game in Winter Haven, the bus broke down in a small town. Even through hardships like this, the Pep Club remained spirited and united. Along with school activities, the club held a bottle drive.
