Following this meeting, Call- ing Mr. Carver , is o plea he voices many times. A day's work often includes a break for orange juice, but chances are he won't relax long. During the morning or afternoon one might see him advising students as he is pictured below. Afternoons are filled with more paper work, such as schedule changes, and special conferences. About 3:19 in the afternoon you might hear him say, Bus lo to replace bus 29 , before the bugle blows. His day doesn't end at 3:20, in fact he is around long after the building has been deserted. Still this busy man finds time to flash his friendly smile throughout the day. DEAN OF GIRLS MISS MILDRED EMMELHAINZ B.S., Physical Education Bring your own food, and some for me too. . . . French waitresses scurrying by a traditional side- walk cafe transformed the Sarasota Bay Country Club into a Frenchman's delight. Out on the patio couples danced beneath the Eiffel Tower, especially constructed by the shop bays. Grouped around the French Fountain are several alumni and l957 seniors. Plant and Hillsborough as well as our own Hurri- canes were among the top ten teams of the state. Since the conference was formed in 1953, Manatee has held second place in l954, first in l955, and tied for Hrst in 1956. strategy with Head Coach Wheeler Leeth. 6 THEY O 12 7 O O 6 13 O l2 O SEASON N BRIEF Manatee County football fans saw one of the finest teams MCHS has ever fielded during the i956 season. At one time, the Canes were rated the number two team in the state. Opening our season with a 39-O victory over Chamberlain, we proceeded to tame the Plant Panthers in a l3-l2 thriller. Gaining momentum, we beat the Clearwater Tornados and the Northeast Vik- ings by scores of 45-7 and 4l-O. We deadlocked Hillsborough, the team rated to win the Western Conference, 6-6. Our invasion of St. Petersburg resulted in another tie, this one l3-l3. Undaunted, the Canes returned to their own field beating Miami Tech 26-O in the tirst meeting of these two teams. Homecoming fans watched us down Jefferson High School 4l-O. Closing our season, was our traditional Sarasota game. We sank the Sarasota Sailors 39'O. Final standing showed Manatee tied with Hillsborough for the fourth Western Crown. This is the first tie in the short history of the conference. Snappy, precision drills of the Drill Team added color to each game, Season's repertoire included the Mexican Hat Dance, the Charleston, a gun drill a nd a flag routine. Rousing marches provided by the 82 piece Hurricane Band kept fans humming long after the season's whistles were blown.
