SOCIAL STUDIES The United States has suddenly been thrust into world leader- ship, and we can no longer go our casual way paying little attention to affairs beyond the seas. Therefore, the major objective of the social studies program must be to teach the attitudes and skills necessary to the survival of our own citizens, as well as the survival of all people in the free world. Our basic need is one of fellowship, and to meet this need we must develop the ability to communicate with and de- pend upon one another.
