Guys and gals wore Oversized sweaters, and jean jackets. Baggy trousers and print pants were also among the newest trends. Hair do's ranged from the long bobs to the wild look. In be- tween we saw the rat-tail, the back perm, and the layered look. Contrary to popular flat-landers opinion, the hillbillies wore shoes; all kinds of shoes! There were the old-timey high top black boots, and an array of colors in flat shoes. Also making an appearance on the fashion scene was the big letter M. The M. was seen on a multitude of jackets and caps throughout the year What for? Why, man, — for old Man High School, of course. She is a graduate of Radford University and received her M.A. in secondary education and English from Western Carolina University. She is originally from Falax, Virginia but her career in teaching started in 1962 at Pulaski High School, Pulaski, Va. She has been teaching at Man since 1980. Mrs. McKee, currently lives in South Man with her husband, Doug, and her two sons, Michael, a K-Mart manager, and Nelson, a freshman at Marshall University. She feels very pro- ud to have been selected teacher of the year. It is the greatest honor she has even received in her teaching career. Representing the teachers of West Virginia has caused her to realize even more clearly what an incredible profession she is involved in. We salute you, Mrs. McKee, Teacher of the Year. no Bob T. Kerley, Principal PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE It is my pleasure to congratulate the members of the graduating class of 1986. Commencement is a beginning, a new start. It is my hope that you will approach graduation with new aspirations and new goals looking to the future with plans of higher achievement. Your future greatly depends on how you use the knowledge that you have gained in the years you have studied in school The degree of success with which you are able to make for yourself a happy and satisfying life will be dependent upon what you have gotten from your school experiences We as teachers get a great deal of satisfaction from our graduates who go out into the world and become successful and productive citizens. I have never known a teacher who was not proud of the successes of his students. We hope that you will think of us as your friends and if we can be of any help to you in the future, do not hesitate to let us her from you. Our ego will be increased by the fact that you do return to us for any aid which we may offer. Best of luck in the future you are about to make for youself. EDITOR’S COMMENT As editor of the yearbook, I would like to express to you that it has been an enriching experience to help create a yearbook full of memories of which I am sure, you will treasure I hope you will enjoy this yearbook as much as I have enjoyed devising it for you. The 1986 Yearbook Staff has made an effort to make this year's edition of the Echo a pictorial guide to the special moments shared during this school year. We hope that it shall serve as a perpetual remembrance of the time spent here at Man High School. This wistful recollection of pleasurable events will probably be the only accountable guide that we will have in our possession as we put this stage of our lives behind us. We would like to extend to all the student body our fondest wishes. In all that you attempt, may you be successful. In the goals you set, may you reach them with ease. May you enjoy all the splendor that life has to offer to the fullest extent of your ability, and above all remain as happy as the por- trayal of memories in this book.
