And each year takes its flight Through months, and weeks, and days, and hours We’ve tried with all our might. To make new friends and keep the old, And now it's time to part. But if we take our place in life, Sometime we have to start. Upon our journey in the world More friends we’re sure to meet. But those we know in ol’ Man High Well, they can’t be beat! Farewell to friends and teachers, too. To desks where we carved our names. Farewell to high school parties. So long to football games. Farewell to halls, to books, to fun. To teacher’s pleasant faces. Hello to work, to a new life, New friends, new work, new places. “Farewell, we say, “It’s not goodbye,” For goodbye means forever. Who thought that the Man Hillbillies would play for the state championship? We had plenty of experience returning in the offensive backfield, defensive line, and in the secondary. We lacked the most important part of a football team: an offensive line. All of the coaches worked with all of us and, slowly but surely, we were ready to face our tough schedule and prove our critics wrong. August 29, 1980, Man at Logan. We defeated the 'Cats 20-0 in a sloppily played game. Halftime was about an hour long due to thunder and lightning. September 5, 1980, Williamson at Man. We won this game 28-0 against an outclassed opponent. We were now 2-0 on the season. September 12, 1980, Man at Shady Spring. We played poorly but we still won 37-12. We were 3-0 on the young season. September 19, 1980, Ceredo-Kenova at Man. We were outmanned and lost 22-12 tonight. We did, however, score 12 points in the last 10 minutes. September 26, 1980, Mt. View at Man. We played a great game and rebounded from last week's loss by a 41-7 score. October 3, 1980, Man at Buffalo (Wayne). We upped our record to 5-1 by playing excellently and winning 25-6. October 10, 1980, Man at Princeton. We squeaked by a fired up Princeton team 20-11 to raise our record to a respectable 6-1. October 17, 1980, Pocahontas County at Man. We didn’t play well, but still won 7-3. October 25, 1980, Man at Scott (Madison). This had to be our worst game of the year, but we were too powerful for Scott and won, 26-6. November 1, 1980, Homecoming, Big Creek at Man. This was a truly defensive battle, and the Funk came away the victor by a 9-6 count. We were 9-1 and ranked 2 going into the playoffs. November 8, 1980 vs. Man (at Logan). The Bobcats weren’t even in the same class as we, and we won handily, 21-6. November 15, 1980, Poca vs. Man (at Logan). We won 28-14 in a close game. The Hillbillies were ready for the state championship. November 21, 1980, Man vs. C-K (State Championship at Charleston). This was our best game of the year, but we lost 18-13. We outplayed the Wonders in every way except on the scoreboard. It is truly a Wonder that CK won. We finished the season with a very fine 11-2 record. We worked very hard and even though this year's Seniors won’t be playing, I know that next year will be the Year of the 'Billies’. Phillip Duba 77 “Rainbow shoes Dickerson” Boy! N hi diaoa ’Hi Principal's Message It is a pleasure for me to have the opportunity to extend best wishes for the future to all students at Man High School, and particularly the Senior Class. It behooves the faculty, and as well as the administration, to help provide for our students an opportunity to develop the maturity and appreciation for a good education. We all must assume a sense of responsibility for learning. It is within your power as students and future citizens to make this world an even better place in which to live, but without learning you cannot hope to do so. You hold the future in your hands. Knowledge is responsibility, for on the shoulders of the learned falls the burden of using, sharing, and increasing known facts. Your future depends on how you use the knowledge that you have gained in the years you have studied in school. We, as teachers, get a great deal of satisfaction from our graduates who go out into the world and make for themselves a successful citizen in society. We, as members of the faculty want for you, that graduate from Man High School, to feel free to return and tell us of your experiences. We hope that you will always feel loyalty to your Alma Mater and that your interest will continue in its welfare. I wish for you the very best in the future and hope that you will think of us as your sincere friends who will be at all times ready to help and aid you in any way we can. Bob T. The yearbook Staff has put together a book that we will all be able to look back at ten years from now and recollect special memories. The book is unique and really reflects what we see in one another. It has been a pleasure to work in a combined effort to produce this annual. It is YOUR book; I only hope you will enjoy looking at it as much as I enjoyed helping put it together. High school years slip away so quickly that one hardly notices where the time has gone. All too soon it’s time to say good-bye to friends you’ve known for years and begin anew. The '81 Echo Staff has attempted to capture some of these fleeting moments so that a special friend, or a particular activity will be fresh in our minds for years to come. Our yearbook consists of a few ideas of our own, and also a few ideas borrowed from preceeding classes. We, the Staff feel that this annual contains the best of our memories of the past, our dreams for the present and introduces to us the most demanding challenges of the future. 144 WAUWORTH rVKMMINC COMPANY M A PCKI.INK MIMOt'RI ««AM Jeana Spears •7 r r k : . •• : . . - -__•. - v - •. .r VVb . jf r .wA- tf.r ■ • • —- ... • ' , ■ ■ • - ■ - •••-.______________________________ - - - , , .... .- ..- ■ - ■ • - ■ . .
