B. and B.S. degrees from West Virginia Institute of Technology. He has done graduate work at Duke University and the University of Michigan and received his M.A. degree from the University ofNorth Carolina. He has held this position until the present time with the exception of three years which he served in the Navy. Mr. Ralph Willis became Supervisor of Logan County High Scho -ls on March l, 1947. There are classes in history, civics, Seventh and global geography, and government. The purpose of this department is to give the students a broader knowledge of American and world affairs and to give anunderstanding ofhow our own govern- ment functions. MATH Certain courses in mathematics are compulsoryg however, those desiring additional courses may take such classes as trigonometry, geometry, and Algebra II. This department is under the supervision of Mr. Stanley Cieplechowicz. These courses give the necessary background for engineering, physics, business, and general college training. lmnartments INDUSTRIAL ARTS The Woodworking Department is under the direction of Mr. Paul Lucas. In Industrial Arts I, boys are taught to use hand tools in carpentry and to fin- ish simple projects forthe home. Those wishing to become skilled in carpentry take Industrial Arts II so that they may learn the proper use of the power tools. HOME ECONOMICS Cooking and sewing are the main attractions of the Home Economics De- partment under Mrs. Betty Altizer. Cooking classes are taught menu plan- ning, preparation, and serving offoods. In sewing, the girls are taught the use of sewing machines, how to cut pat- terns, the selection of materials, and how to finish a garment. f' v - A GIRLS' PHYSICAL EDUCATION The Girls' PhysicalEducation Class is offered only to the Eighth Grade. Here we find these girls striving to gain physical fitness through exercise, games, and dancing. They also have classes in hygiene every other day. I BOYS' PHYSICAL EDUCATION The Boys PhysicalEducation Class is under the direction of Coach James White. When these Eighth Grade boys are in the gym, they are taught games and exercises which develop muscular co-ordination. The other class periods are devoted tothe study ofhealth which teaches them ways of healthful living. Departments PRINT SHOP Another important branch of the school is the Print Shop under the as- sistance of Jack Spicer. It does all of the school's printing of forms and blanks. Q . - 4- fl CHORUS The Man High Chorus is under the direction of Mr. Richard Beasley. The Chorus this semester consists of Z0 in number, 17 girls and 3 boys. Most of the arrangements that they have been practicing are for three-part voices, as there are only 3 tenors in the chorus. The tudent Council The school year of 1948-'49 brought forth an organization of great usefulness to Man High School. This organization was the Student Council. The Council's first advisor was Mr. Erwin Queen. The first Student Council wrote the Consti- tution. The Student Council in its second year of existence was under the sponsorship of R. E. L. Hart. This Council tried to promote the care of our lawn and to control traffic in our buildings. Vice-President Nancy Brewster President Danny Hall And now in its third year, the Council has as its president Danny Hall and as its vice-president Nancy Brewster. This year the Council will be under the spon- sorship of JamesTrapass0. The Council will undertake the organization of more clubs and the betterment of the school.
