It is the first really successful choir to be organized at Man High School since the one directed by Miss Mary Jane McKinley in l946. The choir this year has worked under a handicap, since many of the members have no tree period in which to practice. However, they have coop- erated splendidly with Mr. Smith by rehears- ing during the activity period and on Sundays. The choir sang several numbers at the annual Christmas Concert and hope to present a few new selections at the Spring Concert. 68 'H4 1 .V . aa , .- WEL. It was a nip and tuck battle until the last few minutes of the game. Man was in the lead at the end of the first three quarters, but alas, something began to happen. Logan started hitting the basket repeatedly, and when the final bell sounded, the Hillbillies were on the short end of the score 46-58. All of our boys gave a good account of themselves as you can see from these shots of the game. ln the top picture, Clevenger shows that he is a good center-bottom left, Danny Hall makes it good, bottom right, Frazier makes a one hand field goal. 78 :rw ,,-, ,n F-w-,U ,V ,. ,. lR.f.T TON, rv' , K H, ,L-in-C: we 1, Jag, E ,amlfms James Cum, I-Uwe, -liiifili' 25:6 q'ELi'Q-E' 7a'v'e5 Ea',::'-dge SF:-eff V!a'+s Rav Pefergzfy Dcn l - '::: l-:a:' -'aff -v X515 ::-CND DCVJA Lens llemcsev Emergcn Vf ':':k James Va. I saw where the two Bromfield and his lovely wife, the former traveling to Paris, France, to give a series control. My thoughts drifted back to my high school friends. I wondered if they had all reached the height of their ambitions. So, I decided to look them up. One day while to the society page, famous doctors, Bill Marlene Cock, were of lectures on birth Getting out the trusty old phone directory, I went to work The first name I found was that of Harry Trent. I immedi- ately phoned and asked if I might come to call. I was pleas- antly surprised, but as Harry told me, they come cheaper by the dozen. My next call was to the backyard of Wilma Staten. She was busy talking to Mary Cook, Dorothy Mitchem, and Jane Fowler, I waited patiently until Wilma had finished her con- versation and joined me on the back steps. She told me that Jeanne Harless, noted chemist for Kopperston and Oceana, has made an astounding discovery? She has discovered what the thing is. Wilma said that her assistants were Edna Shriver, Mary Mefritt and Virginia Griffith. While talking she mentioned the fact that Obie Dials, Jimmy Dillion, Tommy Kovich, and Joe Vanover with Earl Reedy as their captain were bell hops at the White Sulfur Springs Hotel. She also told me that spending the weekend at the same hotel were the following celebrities: Miss America, Ruth Ann Thurman, Devilayne Jones, who rapidly gained popularity over Godfrey as a Nuke strummer and Manus Moore, who has been initi- ated into the Marx family lGroucho suffered a nervous break- down because of Moore's spreading popularity as a comedianl. After leaving the Staten home I ran into Ronald Hinch- man, who was visiting in Man with his lovely wife Marion. He is President of the DuPont Chemical Corporation. He said that he was working on a new type of a firecracker that can be set to go off at the desired time. He told me that his as- sistants with this experiment were Johnny Sammons, Bobby Cashion, and Jerry Garrett. On returning home I noticed in the evening paper where the newly appointed warden at The Rock was none other than Jimmy Bailey. I immediately called Jimmy to congratulate him. We started discussing school days. He told me that some of his toughest cases were graduated from Man High. He gave me the following details on the cases: Martin Fadle- vich was in for grand larceny ltwice, his wife, the former Joann Hall, was caught trying to slip files inl. Martin appealed his case to the Supreme Court. Kenny Adkins was Chief Justice. Jimmy told me that Martin's case was being handled by the noted shyster, Randall Derr. He told me that Darrell Bailey was also in for illegal playing of professional football lskull crushingl. After talking with Jimmy Bailey, I returned to my news- paper, Turning to the sports page, I saw that another Babe had been discovered. That pitching fooI, none other than my old school mate, Bob Thompson. He pitches for the Red Socks. I paper, the Man Daily, was Betty Gilbert, Mary Lou Turley, Martha Johnson, Madeva Vance, and Trilby Carroll are re porters and Bobby Montgomery is chief copy boy. Later that evening, after finishing my newspaper, some business took me up to my old alma mater, Man High. I wondered how many of the old faculty members would still be there, but when I walked in I was due for a surprise. Whom on the faculty but Ramona Bingman, who re- R, Williams teaching government. IMary Lee full charge of the yearbooki. Ralph Tallarico is Hillbillies, Ollie Phillips is teaching home e- should I find placed Mr. T. Ham now has coaching the conomics. Mrs. Ralph Whitten, the former Ann Walls, is now teaching Latin. Russell Harris is office boy. Ruth Honaker is principal. fThe students have school three days a week, with two off for good behayiorl. Anna Lea Bell is school secretary. While I was there, the lights went out, and a crew came up from the Appalachian Company to fix them. I found in charge Jim Brown, with his willing, if not able, crew of Donald Nester, James Robinson, Howard Osborne and Paul Bragg. After leaving the school, I decided to go to the movies, having spent quite a strenuous evening. I walked down to the theater and saw Clara Musser selling tickets. Clara told me that the feature was the latest western saga starring Leroy Tex Anderson. There was also as an added attraction, a chorus line, with Doris Jackson, Gleanoria Schulte, and Ange- line Lester. Leading was Sankie Wright. They sang I Wish I Was Single Again. I spent quite an enjoyable two hours. After this restful evening, I decided to get my hair done, be- sides, l thought that I might pick up some information about my friends. I stepped in, and Aloma Gamble met me at the door. She ran the shop. While washing my hair, she told me that Peggy Muschera, formerly Peg Browning, and Joyce Reedy, formerly Joyce Altizer, had been in for new permanents. Vowing to resume my quest the next day, I returned home. But the next morning I received an invitation to the Governor's Ball, That evening I boarded a plane for Charles- ton. I discovered that Clifford Simpkins and Elbert Workman were pilots. Edwina Riedel and Eudora Perry were stewardesses. I noticed a crowd of reporters around a small blonde in the back of the plane. It was that new film siren, Thelma Lusk. While I was on board, a great deal of commotion was raised over some stowaways in the back. To my amazement I dis- covered that they were some of my old school mates, James Duvall, Harold Miller, and Jimmy Joe Vaughn. When I ar- rived in Charleston, I was met by the Governor of West Vir- ginia, Daniel Adkins. He escorted me to the hotel where the ball was to be. To my surprise I met some of my old friends who had become social leaders in Charleston. They were Mary Chapman, Margaret Vinson, Joyce Duncan, Judith Walls, Betty Lankas, and Rita Jordan. The guest of honor was one of my old friends, Nancy Walls, ambassador to France. While I was talking with Nancy, she told me that some of our schoolmates were in Washington as members of Congress. They were Nina Lou Hawkins, Ruby Sias, Delphia Jude, Juanita Robinson, and Anna Martin. I spent a pleasant evening at the ball talking first base, and John They say Bobby Motes on second base, Bill Murray on third, Vincen as short stop. Cecil Grimmett is their coach. he puts up powerful arguments against their defeats, but to no avail. I read on the front page where General Donald with my old acquaintances, I returned home late that night with a contented feeling of a task well done Tackett is back from Korea after telling the friendly Koreans that he would return. I noticed that the editor of the news- 103 at .awww . si ioii Liss wiii Being of sane mind and body, we, the senior class of l95l, do make, publish, and declare on this, the 2lst day of May, our last will and testimony.
