glee eta Under the superb direction of F. Colwell Conklin the Mixed Clee Club reached the peak of its musical year in the Concert, given in the Mamaroneck Iunior High School auditorium on March 31. 1930. The zgo enthusiastic members gave a truly professional perform- ance. achieved through the biweekly rehearsals. Under the direction of the president, the Glee Club opened the program with Harland L. Pinney's tradi- tional ariangement of the Alma Mater. This was fol- lowed by the seventeenth century German melody Ye VVatchers and Ye Holy Ones. The first half of the program continued with P. Tschesnokoff-Noble Cain's arrangement of Let Thy Holy Presence. Strange Music, from Grieg's Song of Norway. and a dra- matic presentation of Holiday The next part of the program was presented by the Girls' Glee Club and the various ensembles. To round out a successful evening. the Mixed Clee Club returned to the stage to sing l-ecuona's .'Xndalucia'i with a solo dance by Sharon Kelly. The stirring arrangement of Once to livery Man and Nation was followed by the moving Negro spiritual Ezekiel Saw the VVheel.'i lloagy Carmichael's Rockin' Chair. with incident solos bv Marie Faillace Mar' 1 ie Fritzinfer ,Xni Stamegna. and lflizabeth Stow. The gay finale was from Sullivan's The Gondoliers N which received an encore. sung with rhythm and gusto. The combined Glee Clubs concluded the program with The Voice ol Freedom. Pinney. has successfully completed another commendable year. As in the preyious school years Sophomores. luniors. and Seniors filed into assemhly to the liyely strains ol' marches played hy our loyal orchestra. ln addition to this. the group contributed its musical talents to the success of the all school plays. Une of the organizationis greatest privileges each year is that of participation in the graduation ceremonies. For the memhrrs it is truly thrilling to see the Seniors clad in caps and gowns come down the aisle in rhythm to the music of the processional. Emphasis this year has been placed upon intensifying the members' musical appreciation of diflierent types of selections. Among those compositions played hy the group were Tango in ll... Stony Point March. and selections 1' 'om Faust and Tannhauser. . '. . A ' izttsztkis, Sharing in the superyision of the orchestra were four seniors: lane Ann Hughes. president: lla Yoris. Vice- President: Lesley Harper. secretary: and Anthony Fo- sella. librarian. As aecompanists Carol Posner, Marian liatsakis and lane Ann Hughes served the group dilif gently setting a tempo for the instrumentalists. As is always true at the end ot' each school year. the orchestra must meet the loss ot' talented Seniors from its ranks. Next year the group will feel the absence of Ronald NIarino's line clarinet playing: and the trills of Hautists. Betty Stow and David Farr. Along with these Seniors will also graduate: Roger Schacklinsky. lane Hughes. Gordon Nichols. lla Voris. Malcolm Hepworth. and Lesley Harper. from the different chairs. The orchestra has truly earned a definite place in the life and tradition of our school.
