55. N Mr. James Tuppeny Coach ' David Wood Captain For three years Malvern's track team went unnoticed. Few boys participated in the sport, and even fewer paid much, attention to the results of the competition with other schools. Then something happened that changed this. Boys by the tens and twenties started going out for track, people became interested in the Prepsters' meets, and track became firmly established as a maior sport at Malvern. During the '51 season, the squad, coached by Mr. James Tuppeny, produced an enviable record of five wins and two losses in dual competition, a first and second place in two triangular meets. ln the Bridgeton Relays, Malvern placed third. One week later a Malvern quartet made up of Giordano, Clarke, Wood, and Mita captured first place in the coveted National Prep School Mile Relay Championship, defeating over twenty other competitors. At the Catholic State Meet at Reading, Pa., Malvern carried home the trophy as champion in the Class C division. ist row, left to right: Marhoefer lMgr.J, E.
