MARGARETE CLAUS from Berlin, Germany OUR EXCHANGE STUDENTS A MESSAGE FROM MARGARETE Never before a year went for me as fast as the last one I spent here in Malvern as exchange student, Never one year was so filled with new experiences and lots of fun, Of course, I expected already before I came over to like the U,S,A, and to have a wonderful time, otherwise I hardly would have had the courage to leave my home in Germany for a whole year. Yet in spite of that, Iasked myself at first a little anxiously whether I, all the time and in all ways, would enjoy being here. But then since the very momentl was on American ground everybody, especially my house family McCray, was so very nice and helpful to me that I felt quite welcome and forgot all my doubts quickly. And you, the teachers and students of MHS, certainly had the biggest share in helping to make my stay in America as won- derful as it was. Now at the end of the year I want to thank you all very, very much for your understanding of my troubles and difficulties in becoming adjusted to the new way of life. lwant to thank you for your friendship, for your helpfulness and for your interest in this exchange program, which tries to better the relations between the countries and people of the world, I am so happy that I can say as far as you and I are concerned there is nothing to better anymore! Good luck to all of you, and I surely hope we will meet again some day, A MESSAGE FROM DAVID Hello, everybody! At the same time you are reading this I am still a long way away, in a country unfamiliar to some, a culture that is somewhat different from ours, and in a school that is only a little different. Since I've been here I've realized how much students are the same the world over. When we're taking a test you notice the very same feeling of anxiety, when we're in trouble for being too loud then there is the same old nervousness, and when we get a long assignment there are just as many groans as at home. Many times I've thought of school at home and all the activities that must be going on, the fun that you must be having in assembly and clubs, and especially the more interesting classes knowing that now there is actually a friend from another country with you. It's just like our parents and teachers have always said that our school life was passing very quickly. And now we all are beginning to look around with wonder at everything that has been ours. But of course we'll keep it always with us and especially now that the world is getting larger in ideas, although smaller in size, we will remember our friends and school with a feeling that we will never be able to match. Ich wunsche guten Erfolg fuer Euer weiteres Leben und verbleibe mit herzlichem Gruss. DAVID MCCRAY
