Arsenic and Old Lace is cen- tered around two loveable old maids, Abby and Martha Brew- ster,, played by Reba Cunning- ham and Eva Jean Bohannan They live in a run-down old man- sion in Brooklyn. Outwardly. Abby and Martha are kind, gen- erous, and sympathetic. However. like many old ladies, they hzvie their eccentricities. The Bret-:ster sisters' favorite pastime is the poisoning of elderly gentlemen who call at the house in their search for rented rooms I I I I I I . I I Teddy, one of the three strange Brewster brothers, nephews of Abby and Martha, is the most obviously insane member of the family. He imagines himself to be the well-known president of rough-rider, another Teddy Roose- Ivelt. Capably portrayed by Jerry I I I I l I, I 1 I I DeBin, his costumes no less than his behavior contribute to the comic situation. Teddy's brother. Mortimer, is a dramatic critic for a prominent New York newspaper. David Hal- bert plays thc harassed news- paper man in a family of man- iacs. Insanity seems to be a family trait. Need any more be said about the third of the Brewster brothers, than that Boris Karloff created the part in the Broad- way production?
