Class History N-5 l:I' f Sept. 6, 1938 was a happy day for 39 little cherubs-our first day of school! It took two teachers, Miss Creighton and Miss Lappin, to handle us our first year, for we were a lively bunch. Mike Marmo started his school career with a bang by playing the part of the bunny in the grade school operetta. VVe had calmed down enough by the next fall for all of us to be under the guidance of Miss Dewell. Twila Unkefer joined our happy little group and Dick Deckman caused quite a commotion when he fell from the top of the sliding board. Miss Rohrer had little difficulty with us as third graders. In fact, we were actually beginning to let a little knowledge soak in. The girls all turned playwrights this year and presented extremely com- plicated dramas for their fellow students. Margie Casper could think of nothing but Dick during our fourth year. Miss Helen Ayers was at the reins this time and guided us through a very happy year. An expert speller, Wade Green, is with us now and Don Cooper has rejoined our ranks after leaving in the second grade. their Valoise Crowl and Shirley Gier made debut with our class in the fifth grade. The most memorable event of this year was when our teacher, Miss Kuder, assisted us in putting on a marionette show. Wade Green had grown tired of us already and moved away. Miss Motter was in charge of us in the sixth grade. We acquired quite a few new classmates this year, only to lose them again, along with a few others, including Astrid Wingerter who moved to Carrollton at the close of the year. VVe arrived in Junior High School with shining faces to greet our teacher, Miss Blanche Ayers. Gee, were we proud! We soon got used to the large building though, and settled down to a very en- joyable year. We elected officers and had our first class party, not to mention the assembly program we presented. Death cast its shadow on our class this page fourteen year when it took one of our classmates, Kenneth Benedict. Werenit the boys in the class of '46 just too divine? At least that is what we girls thought as eighth graders. Wade decided to come back and Doris Evans is now a member of our class, which is under Miss Ayers' leadership again. Our Freshman year proved to be an important step. Mr. Cook managed to help us with one worth- while enterprise-selling Christmas cards. Marvin jenkins and Bert Mackey joined us and Astrid re- turned in time for the second semester. We ordered our class rings when we were Soph- omores and felt we were really getting up in the world. Mr. Firm was our class sponsor. Paul Adkins was added to our class roll again, having been gone since the fourth grade. There was never a more ambitious for irre- sponsible! junior Class in the history of the school. Mrs. Pretty did a fine job as our sponsor. We sold eats at the football and basketball games, sold Christmas cards, magazines, stationery, and any- thing else we could get our hands on. By May we had enough money to treat the Seniors to a beautiful banquet and prom using the rainbow theme. We can be very proud of our class play, Dora Dean,', which was directed by Mrs. Romano. Sept. 3, 1949. At last-we were Seniors! Mrs. Pretty just couldn't give us up so she once again took the task of being our class sponsor. Dolores Reed left after being with us eleven years. We had enough activities to keep us busy but not enough to stop us from enjoying everything that came our way. We put on the play, The Baby Sitter, under the direction of Mrs. Teets. We are happy to have edited the annual The Green and White. Our school career will be climaxed by a trip to Washington, D. C., after which we will say goodbye to Malvern High School. Then each will go his way and as we thrust our inexperienced feet into the wide and mystery-laden world, we will take with us fond memories of our Alma Mater. Green and White, 1950
