'-- me DEDICATION If nobody smiled and nobody cheered, and nobody helped us alongg If every man looked after himself and good things all went to the wrong, t If nobody cared just a little for you, and nobody thought about me, And we all stood alone in the battle of life, what a dreary old world it would be. Life is sweet just because of our parents, and the things in common we share: We want to live on, not because of ourselves, but because of those dear folk who carey Its giving and doing for our dear parents-on that all life's splendor depends, And the joy of the world, when you have summed lt all up, is found in our Mothers and Dads. We, the Seniors of Malvern High School, In gratitude to our parents, Are hereby dedicating our Senior Annual To the following parents. One bright day in September 1954, a group of girls and boys gathered together to begin their first experiences of school life. Our mother's left us in good hands, because our teachers were Miss Creighton and Miss Lappln. 'The next day we disliked getting out of bed so early but our mothers insisted. We didn't learn very much our first year, but as you know, we did learn to talk. Well, most of us made the Second Grade and Miss Lappin again took part of us in hand, her assistant being Miss Dewell. Grace De Palme got the thrill of her life, when Miss Lappin made her sit with Bob Muffly, because they were always giggling. Nova Jean Leggett always seemed to be sitting on the floor, because of her very bad habit of getting out of her seat to get a book from her desk. In the Third Grade Miss Lappln again took us have loved us! She and Miss Rohrer tried to tame sible. During recess the boys thought' they would stranded in the middle of a big mud puddle. D1dn't Miss Lappin gave the boys a paddling and the girls Pignotti and Margaret Unkefer were called monkeys pin, because they were swinging on the rods in the in hand. My, she must us, but it was impos- like to see the girls we get a big surprise! a shaking up. Dina this year by Miss Lap- basement. We finally made it to the Fourth Grade, and did we think we were big. f5d Miss Ayers and Miss Lappin were our teachers. Anna Csuti put in her ap- pearence by moving to Malvern. Earl Frltchley got a paddling almost every day, and he practically lived in the hall. One day Miss Ayers forgot to call him in, so he just stood behind the door all noon. When we reached the Fifth Grade, Miss Lappin thought she would like a rest from seeing our loving faces continually, so our teacher's became Mrs. Spragg and Miss Wigham. Paul Pikulik had a case on Arlene Harsh, and could he write the notes! Our guides for the Sixth Grade were Miss Lappin and Miss Motter.Miss Lappin thought she would like seeing us again. We lost quite a number of classmates this year. It was during this year that Charles Brahler got cracked on the head by Miss Motter. She thought the ruler wouldn't break, but Charles' hard head fooled her. Our Seventh Grade teachers were Miss Ayers, Miss Dickerhoon and Miss Ruggy. There were so many of us this year that they divided our class in- to A, B, and C groups. The cause of the overflow was that the last year's Seventh Grade students didn't think we knew our way around the building well enough, and being very courteous they stayed with us. - In the Eighth Grade our new classmates were -Mildred Hoagland and Winston Smith. .We were guided along this year by Miss Brown and Mr. Kennedy. Freida Wallace, as usual, was always cracking jokes with Mr. Kennedy. This was the year the boys continually held races to see who could throw the most Girls' belongings on top of the cupboard. .o,:oz9Q:0, , l 'O 'g O , 9 Q 6 -If , Q 6 0 'I 5102! ,,.f J' ,030 ,.-W O lx,?y::Q, X .-:Z .-: . --r555Er:- 'iff ' 'Ot- 55 -:rE5?5-r:- . .E '- Z ' e' We 'Q' 39 V 4 A: 25-:Z-ist. M A 2 - rw- The next year as Freshman we were very much disappointed when we did not get initiated. Entering our class this year were Kay and Jackie Mar- shall. Our homeroom teachers were Miss George and Mr.'Collins. In our Sophomore year we had as our home room teachers Miss Schambra and Mr. Dolfi. Miss Schambra had the girls and Mr. Dolfi had the boys. Wanda Hawk, Bob Miller and George Kajganic were our new class members. We also chose our class rings this year. Mr. Dolfi took all of us to the study hall to carry out our Junior gig year. We received our class rings. Our play Prof'essorl How Could You? I was given. Mrs. Teets was our play director. On the evening of May 10, Sififiigigifiiif' 255255552225 we sponsored a banquet in honor of the class of 1945. Well, this being our last year and we finally being Seniors, we have as our home room teacher Mr. Walters. nFoot-Loosen, was our play and it was under the direction of Miss Osborne and Mr. Walters. TAHQLH We are leaving you as a graduating class of 56 members. Seemingly, we have memories of some very good times. We have been a lot of trouble to our teachers, but we only did it in fun. Later in life we will real- ize, maybe, that if we had it to do over, we would have respected our teachers more. We do thank you for all the things that you have done for us. 11:25 I ...:.: 35400 'O ' 00.9 ,gf l 0.0. He has decided to fly over Possumneck, the present home of his dear classmates. While flying around, his motor conked out by coincidence, and he sees a garage--and guesswho's there? Our great mechanic, Charles Brahler. One of his assistants, Tubby Stoltz, fixes Earl's helicoptern 'Charles decides to take Earl for a ride in his new Cadillac. Driving along the beach, we see Sarah Jane Ebner and her handsome cadet, George Kajganic. Suddenly a milk truck passes us, the driver blows his horn. Who was it, but Donald Pearson taking his wife, the former Anna Csuti, for a ride? Our next stop is the church. We find Bob Muffly marrying Win- ston Smith and Jackie Marshall. We thought we were in China by the way the rice was flying around. Throwing it is Dorothy Hoover and Freida Wallace. They both are co-owners of a grocery store. Driving on, we see a milk plant owned by Robert Miller and his wife, Dina Pignotti. Charles tells Earl that Joe Casper is working in this plant. Since Miller has bought this Milk plant he has enough money to afford some secretaries, two of whom are Myra Jo Thomas and Arla Jean Kibler. Passing the New Sears and Roebuck Company, we find Pete Clough, the manager. Being very successful he has acquired a wife, none other than Marjorie Unkefer. As bookkeeper we find Tony Buzzelli and Nancy Recchio his assistant helper. Moving out towards the country, we see Fred Wadsworth plowing one of his fields and his wife Velma Crawford bringing him some nice ice cold lemonade. Next to them is a farm owned by Paul Pikulik and Bud Williams. There are two houses, of course, and in the yard stands Bud's wife, Margaret Unkefer, and Paul's wife, Wanda Hawk, arguing which one will get the car to go to the opera. The famous Gascon sis- ters, are starring in nThe Vanilla Maiden.n CThat's a sister to the Chocolate S01diei'. l Going back through town Earl and Charles decide that they want a haircut at Kocher's Barber Shop. Next door we find Grace De Palmo's Beauty Shop. Her assistant is Jane Hutchison. Jane is giving Coralie Burns a permanent. Coralie attends the Possumneck University where she is studying to become a farmer's wife. Passing a brick yard we see the owner, Ernest Burkes, showing Lbs. Amos Ferguson, the former Nova Jean Leggett, which bricks are best suited for building a home. Incidentally, Ernest built that large new home on Main St. in Robertsville. The former Mildred Hoag- land and her husband, now Mr. and Mrs. Ted Neville are residing there. After our return we had many interesting experiences to tell about. It was really thrilling to have seen all of our classmates. So we will sign off by willing the nCity for Intelligent People,W to the wonderful class of '47. We received the city from the class of '45, but became so intelligent that we had to evacuate itand move to Possumneck. This was the second consecutive victory over the Waynesburg eleven in as many years and a rariety in Malvern's Athletic relationship with Waynesburg. Coach G1dley's 1945 team lays claim to the mythical Carroll County Championship by virtue of a season record of 5 wins,l tie and 5 losses. Malvern suffered their 5 losses to much larger Class A schools. While playing in their own Class B ranks the local gridders rolled up a total of 153 points while holding their opponents to a lone touchdown. The Carroll County Champions were led offensively by Dean Kocher who scored 10 touchdowns and 6 extra points. Dean, also, was a brainy field general as well as the team's punter gud passer. Defensively the Green Wave was paced by its two stand- out tackles,Don Pearson and Robert Muffly. Others who did stand- out work were Ernest Burkes and Bob McKenzie in the backfield, while Muffly and Pearson received considerable support from Winston Smith, Paul Pikulik, Pete Clough, and Fred Wadsworth on the line. Newcomerstown 27 Malvern O Malvern journeyed to Newcomerstown for a night game Sept.l4 and after the final gun sounded found themselves on the short end of a 27-O score. Malvern held the Trojans scoreless during the first half but weakened during the third and fourth periods to allow their Class A opponents to score 4 touchdowns and 5 extra points. ' Malvern 47 Dennison St. Mary's 6 Led by Kocher and McKenzie the Malvern Green Wave hadlittle trouble turning back the St. Mary's gridders 4746 on the home field. The defensive work of Muffly, Pearson and Wadsworth was outstanding. Dennison's only score came late in the fourth per- iod against the Green and White reserves. Canton Twp. 59 Malvern O Playing their worst game of the season the Malvern gridders suffered a humiliating 59-O whitewash at the hands of Class A Canton Twp. on the Canton Gridiron. Malvern 15 East Sparta O Coach Gldley's footballers pinned a 15-O loss on the East Sparta team in a rough game played on the local field. Kocher and McKenzie furnished the Malvern offensive power whllelearson, Muffly, Wadsworth and Clough played a bang-up game on defense. Again the mighty Hornet line held their opponents scoreless. This game was played on the Malvern field. Malvern 67 Augusta O Avenging last years 6-0 defeat, the Green Hornets swarmed all over Augusta to run up one of the largest scores in Malvern Gridiron history. The local second team started and played al- ternately with the varsity throughout the contest. All of the local scoring, however, was done by the varsity eleven. Dean Kocher gained statewide newspaper publicity for his feat of scoring 6 touchdowns. This was the leading point total in the State of Ohio for this weekend. By virtue of Malvern's 67-0 de- feat of Augusta and Carrollton! 39-0 loss to Newcomerstown the Hornets are regarded as the 1945 Carroll County Champions. Tlmken Reserves 15 Malvern 6 Again Malvern lost to a Class A school. Leading 6-O at the end of the first half, Malvern weakened during the third and fourth periods to allow the Canton team to push across 2 touch- downs and an extra point for the win. Malvern O Bergholz O Playing on a greasy, rain soaked Bergholz field, the Green and White were held to a scoreless tie. Bergholz never pene- trated the Malvern 50 yd. stripe, while the locals were deprived of a chance to score by the final gun when they ran to the Berg- holz 2 yd. marker. Kocher's fine kicking was a standout feature of the contest. Malvern 6 Waynesburg O A sea of mud and a torrent of rain greeted one of the larg- est homecoming crowds ever to witness a game on the local grid- iron. Playing in a cold, driving rain the Waynesburg and Malvern team battled through a scoreless first halfyalthough the Mohawks threatened many times, only to be stopped by a stubborn Malvern line led by Pearson and Miles. Late in the 5rd quarterKocher setup a pass play with Clough on the receiving end. Pete took it on his 15 yd. stripe and ran the remaining distance for a score. Kocher's place kick was blocked and Malvern led 6-0. Waynesburg took to the air in the 4th period and numerous pass interceptions and great defensive play by the Green and White line kept Waynesburg from scoring, thus enabling Malvern to hang up their ,second win in as many years over their great rivals from Stark County. 5:5 Q05 Ivwkdaho 6 0' Q 4' 9 . fLJv XXX if -'A' ,gg X X 0 H' , 457:-:-:-: ,, .-:iffg 551- ..3:, ':f:f:?:.... 33555: iff 191 ff: iffffligzzz-.-.-.-: ..1f' 'V' ' ' '-:1E1EfEf55S5E515f:'f ' 5'-if E5i5S5EfE5E3E3E5 -w- Bggggsgg uw' ' lg? .gniwif 7?
