SIXTH GRADE The Sixth Grade traveled to •Thomas Hill to see a strip-min- ■ing operation and power plant. An end-of-the-year trip to Mis- souri Town brought the 1850’s alive and a visit to the zoo was also very enjoyable. Contests and special events such as Reading Week and Newspaper Week added much to the year’s activities and ex- citement. Good behavior and getting home work done on time was rewarded by accumulating marbles resulting in special ac- tivities such as playing in the snow and a favorite - game af- ternoon. SEVENTH GRADE This year proved to be a chal- lenge. After a few weeks, how- ever, everyone met the chal- lenge and became adjusted to changing teachers and class- rooms for various lessons. A bake sale, the one and only money-making project, was a great success. Everyone willing- ly assumed his responsibility. Class officers were: Kevin Rogers, president; Justin Mal- ter, vice president; Larry Hol- land, secretary; and Kathy Croka, treasurer. Student Coun- cil Representatives were Jason Pointer and Fabian Phythian; al- ternate, Chris Yates. ABOVE: Cecil sells tne cooKies while Chris eats the profit. This was a busy year for the Fifth Grade. We took part in Math and Spelling Contests at Brunswick and at Malta Bend, receiving a 3rd place in spelling and 4th and 5th places in math. Malta Bend 4th, 5th, and 6th graders won in the Malta Bend Science Quiz Bowl. Fifth grad- ers received two blue ribbons in the Malta Bend Inter-School Science Fair. We worked on re- search skills in social studies through presidential work- sheets. Field trips included seeing strip mining firsthand, riding the Missouri River Queen River- boat, and visiting Missouri Town and Swope Park Zoo. Three fifth graders were able to attend the Literature Festival at Warrens- burg and meet some of their fa- vorite authors. During Reading Week the Fifth Grade studied favorite fairy tales and began studying po- etry. One of our favorite activi- ties was learning what a panto- mime is by presenting Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to the other grades in pantomime. Other favorite activities included making a Thanksgiving mural for the lunch room and making Christmas wreaths.
