4 29 trophies cap the competitive season The Malden High School Band added another 29 trophies to its’ collection this year. Over the past 6 years the band has received a total of 160 trophies. Director Mel Blackman commented, This year’s marching season can be summed up by the fact that the members of the Malden High School Band and Colorguard are not only wonderful performers, but very special people.” One of the most memorable events was the trip to St. Petersburg, Florida in April to participate in the Festival of the States where the band represented Massachusetts. Its been a rough season, but overall it’s like we’re pleased with our performances.” Kim Kapralski was quoted as saying. The band had been to many places in the past 6 years, including Florida, Georgia, Virgnia, and Niagara Falls, and they’ve been invited to play in such places as London and Australia. One member summed up her family feelings of her experiences, Being in the band for the past four years has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. It takes dedication, drive, and talent. For these traits we are rewarded with memories that will last a lifetime.” Bonnie Wayshak, drum major, said, Band has been like a family to me.” 1. Senior Frank Polischuk keeps the beat for a half time performance at the Somerville game, early in the season. 2. For Band members, this was the last time they would sit in the subsequently condemned stands. 3. Sophomore Drum Major, Leah Hatch leading the Band off the field after a Saturday afternoon performance. 4. Precision is the key to making perfect forms. This was rehearsed by the Band at a Saturday morning practice at MacDonald Stadium. 5. Freshman, Christine Me Knight and Sophomore, Maureen Gibbons show the concentration necessary to achieve smooth performance at the Arlington football game. 6. Using music is acceptable for the first few times out but eventually Junior, Bryan Tuttle would have to memorize it. 7 Band members Judy Abruzzese, Jodie Zalk, Stacey Kirwan and Joe Palmer anxiously await their time in the spotlight. 22 band
