Fluency In Their Chosen Language James J. McCann Gregorian University-S.T.B. Boston University-M.A. Latin Department Head New ideas and programs for teaching Latin were tested by the Latin Department this year, under the direction of Mr. James McCann. Students learned Latin by the structural method and also had access to the new language lab. Two guided tours of the Classical Exhibits of the Museum of Fine Arts were conducted. Mr. McCann believes that the inlluence of the classics in language, literature, and life, is so extensive that all students should have the opportunity to en- hance their education by the study of Greek and Roman ideas. New Language Lab Helps Students To Gam Carole S. Gillis Boston University-B.A. Patricia M. Mahoney Louis Melanson Boston College-B.A., M.A. Modern Language Department Head With the construction of a new language lab, the Modern Language Department, headed by Mr. Louis Melanson, was able to provide students with more conversational drill this year. The Department has also been expanded to include French V, a course in the study of French Literature for advanced students in the Ecoutez et P47162 method. Two new teachers, Mrs. Gillis and Miss Levin, were also welcomed this year to the department. Review Math and Trigonome- try prepared students for the College Board SAT. As a result, test scores were as much as 150 points higher than in previous years. Students who had satisfactorily completed Math IV were eligible to enroll in Intro- duction to Calculus. Advanced students could also compete on the Math Team.
