•History mortis them all History? What is history? That is a good ques¬ tion. Well, to start with it’s the study of Medieval, Ancient and Modern times. “The makeup of Modern America,” made its appearance with great favor at the end of last year. Many students took field trips during the Christmas vacation. Some made posters during Brotherhood Week, while others collected fa¬ mous sayings about brotherhood. Miss Turkington’s classes make special reports on current magazine arti¬ cles. These boys and girls gain valuable experience by writing five thousand word source themes. The subjects for each of the three classes were the Foreign Policy of the U.S.A., the Economic problems in the U.S.A., and parts of the United Nations. This year Miss Slattery is giving a course in Geopolitics for Junior Science boys. Last but not least, many read the Ameri¬ can Observer, a weekly newspaper containing articles about current problems, both national and international, current events, vocabulary, jokes and monthly quizzes. The Washington and Franklin award for outstand¬ ing work in history has been discontinued. Mr. Garland ponders Carol Fisher’s an¬ swer while the rest of the 6th period class in European History gleefully listen.
