They thought he couldn’t play, but when he sat at the player-piano, a genius, to say the least. “Ted” is one of the few Englishmen who did not come over on the Mayflower; he crossed “la mer” on the “Acquitania”. Rose is a “flower of girlhood”, but she forgot to climb all the way up the trellis. The only persons who aren’t her friends are those who do not know her, and they aren’t aware of what they are missing.
