Excellence In Athletics A thletics played an important role during our four years at Malden Catholic. With the interscholastic and intramural programs, we all had many opportunities to develop physically and emotionally through sports. Improved fitness, the values and lessons which are learned from being part of a team, and increased school spirit were some of the benefits of the athletic program. Everyone had the chance to participate, and the number of people who did so reached a record level during our four years. Even those members of the M.C. community who were not active participants were able to get involved by supporting the teams in their pursuits. The Lancers had their share of outstanding teams while we were at Malden Catholic. Although not all of the seasons were winning ones, superior individual performances could always be found. While these teams and individuals were outward signs of the success of M.C. ' s athletic program, the friendships which were formed, the personal development which took place, and the lasting memories which were created were the true indication of Malden Catholic ' s dedication to excellence in athletics. Excellence In Service p very school has an obligation L to two communities: the one within it, and the larger one around it. Malden Catholic gave us the opportunity to serve both of these communities through many programs. Each year there were money, food, and clothing drives for organizations such as Oxfam America, Bridge Over Troubled Waters, and the Pine Street Inn. Trips to the Haley House soup kitchen, Red Cross blood drives, and various service programs were other efforts to bring M.C. closer to the outside world. Within the school, tutoring and numerous extracurricular activities enabled us to use our talents to help our peers and to make M.C. a better place. In our pursuit of personal excellence, M.C. taught us to help others advance as well. Excellence in service is a legitimate goal and one that was well met at Malden Catholic.
