и R | N C | P A L At this time | salute the members of the graduating class of June, 1989. With the assis- tance and support of your parents, you have persevered, struggled, and achieved. The ad- ministrative and instructional staffs have attempted to provide you with a quality education. We have made efforts to alter and rearrange your priorities. We have established levels of students expectations which we hoped would have prepared you to be productive mem- bers of society. You have accomplished a major objective in your young lives, graduation from high school. Don't allow yourself at this youthful age to be satisfied with this triumph. Set your sights for higher achievements. Allow your aspirations complete freedom. Permit only your individual potentials to dictate your limitations. Upon graduation from Malcolm X Shabazz High School you have become a distinguished member of the family and you are always welcome to return home. To the members of the Graduating Class of 1989, I wish you unlimit- ed success in your future endeavors. C ongratulations!! Charles D. Meadows

DEDICATION Ελ GORDON 5. MAYES We, the class of 1989, dedicate our yearbook to Gordon S. Mayes, our former princi- pal. Mr. Mayes we truly do appreciate all that you have done for us by trying to help us to understand that we were being cheated by the system. At times, some of us were disagreeable or even ungrateful, but you just slapped us on the back of the head and gave us the, Gordy Rule” - “Do it yourself fool Thanks we needed that! Whoever said that Joe Clark was an original must not have seen him taking notes from you. Some of us can't help but to believe that maybe you were taken away from us because you told us things that some would rather we not know. Now that we are about to take that step into the, “Cold, cruel world , we look at future students and shiver at the work that it will take for them to catch up. Thanks to your, “ТеШпа”, us, since our Sophomore year what was ahead, we used that time, some wisely some not so wisely. Yet we all love you! Thank you “Gordy” Ms. Shaketa Brown Vearbook Editor Class of 1989
