You are facing the most difficult time of your life. Many of the supports you have been accustomed to will no longer be there. Many of the people you have reached out for and depended on will no longer be there. You must now face the world and all its consequences and be judged by your efforts alone I sincerely hope that we. at Malcolm X Shabazz High School, have prepared you for this. As you face this new stage in your life. I hope you will be successful. I hope you walk with pride, dignity and self-respect. Your achievements will be based upon the effort and commitment that you put into it. Success is not measured by the money you earn or the position you achieve, but it is measured by how well you live your life as a human being. Remember life is not always “fair. Remember that you cannot always trust the people who represent you and remember that nothing is guaranteed Above all, it is important to care about and respect the rights of others, more important, though, you must care about and respect yourself first. Always reach for the stars and believe in yourself. I wish you the best. GORDON MAYES, Principal VICE PRINCIPALS In Charge of Building and Grounds SEYMOUR FARBER In Charge of Academics CATHERINE F. MURPHY In Charge of Budget and Finance IRWIN SHMURAK In Charge of Social Growth RICHARD WILLIAMS 36 ADMINISTRATORS DEDICATION MR. MARK BROWN Mr. Mark Brown received a BA degree in Math from Rutgers University in New Brunswick. He became a math teacher at Malcolm X Shabazz on January 2, 1984, after having worked as a substitute teacher for a year Mr Brown is presently attending Rutgers (Newark Campus), pursuing credits for certification Since working at Shabazz. Mr Brown has always supported the activities of the school's different organizations. In the beginning of the school term, when the Class of 1986 found themselves in need of a new class advisor, it was no surprise that Mr Brown was asked to take the job He soon found that his graduate studies and teaching responsibilities did not afford him the time needed to prepare a class for graduation. After a couple of months. Mr Brown relinquished the responsibility of being senior class advisor, however, he continued to lend support in every way possible We feel that Mr Brown deserves special recognition for making himself available to assist with extracurricular activities sponsored by the students of Malcolm X Shabazz Mr, Mark Brown, we. the Class of 1986, dedicate our yearbook to you to show our appreciation for the assistance that you have given to us and to the classes before us. Mr. Harrison returned to his alma mater and began teaching Auto Shop. After a brief illness. Mr. Harrison entered into eternal rest on February 26. 1986 Mr. Richard Harrison was loved and will deeply be missed by his Malcolm X Shabazz family CROSSING THE BAR Alfred Tennyson Sunset and evening star, And one clear call for me. And may there be no moaning of the bar, When I put out to sea. But such a tide as moving seems asleep, To full for sound and foam, When that which drew from out the boundless deep Turns again home. Twilight and evening bell, And after that the dark. And may there be no sadness of farewell, When I embark. For tho’ from out our bourne of time and place The flood may bear me far, I hope to see my pilot face to face When I have crossed the bar. MR. RICHARD E.
