MS. EKMa4 LCWE On© of the most important parts of a yearbook is the dedication. It is given to a teacher who is more to us than just an instructor. This person is one who really cares about teaching, and yet is also a friend to the students. With this in mind the Senior Class is proud to dedicate the 1984 Optimist to Ms Erma Lowe, as an expression of gratitude for oil of her support and guidance. Ms Lowe graduated from Wiiam Patterson College with a Bachelor's degree in Education and later received a Master in Administration Supervision. She presently resides in East Orange. New Jersey. Ms Lowe teaches Geometry. Computer Math and Trigonometry. She is a teacher who is looking for comprehension from her students. Ms. Lowe goes beyond the call of duty to help a student She is active in the school and the community. Ms Lowe has been at Malcolm X Shabazz (South Side) since 1965. MIDWAY I've come the far to freedom and I won't turn bock I'm ctmbtng to the highway from my old dirt track I'm coming and I'm going And I’m stretching and I'm growing You've bled me and you've starved me but l‘ve sti grown strong You've lashed me and you've tried me. and you've everyttvng but freed me But in tme you'l know you need me and it won’t be long I've seen the daylight breaking high above the bough I've found my destnation and I've made my vow So whether you abhor me or decide me or ignore me. fAghty mountans loom before me and I won't stop now. M§. IY 41IIM (UJ MHl iH Ms. Rosalind Carmichael, homeroom teacher of room 227. has been the force behind many of our senior activities. Whenever there was a senior function. Ms. Carmichael was always wiling to help in any way possible. She donated her time and energy for the senior cause. Ms. Carmichael took total responsibility for the Royal Showcase of Beauty and talent (the contest for choosing class queens). She has also, this year, taken on the responsibility of the Recorder, the school newspaper Most important, she has for the past 13 years, taken full responsibility for presenting the juniors and seniors with a show put on by Charles Stewart and Good News Ms. Carmichael was the class advisor in 1979. so she really knows the importance of faculty cooperation and participation with the senior class. She has given us her all in our four years here at Malcolm X Shabazz and we greatly appreciate it. Because she has given so much of herself to us, we take this time to dedicate the 1984 OPTIMIST to Ms Rosalind Carmichael. CONFLICT Here we sand infants overblown. poised between two civilizations. findsng the balance irksome. itching for something to happen. to tip us one way or the other. groptng in the dark for a helping hand and finding none I'm tired. O my God. I'm tired. I'm tired of hanging in the middle way — but where can I go? MABEL SEGUN 4 DEDICATION
