CLASS PROPHECY F1g6I'S won the Class AA football champ1onsh1p so B111 has gone on to h1gher honors Rex K1ng 1S now workmg on the Grand Cle Opry program He plays second f1ddle to Roy Acuff but IS soon to have a f1rst f1ddle spot s1nce Roy 1S gett1ng pretty old The next few pages were m1nus any of my fr1ends but I soon came across the name of James Dan1el Magu1re whom we used to know as Shorty He 15 an outstand1ng sc1ent1st workmg under E1nste1n, and has perfected a mach1ne to put atoms back together after they have been crushed Next 1n the book came James M1ller James wa1ted pat1ent1y around Malakoff t1ll Gerald1ne graduated and then after a b1g church wedd1ng and a honeymoon at Cayuga they moved to Lubbock where he 1S head of the b1g construct1on company that 1S bu1ld1ng a ser1es of underground factor1es Nors1ne Owens 1S another of the students who marrled very soon after graduat1on She and Mr Terrel res1de 1n Chandler and the1r S1X boys are all dest1ned to be great basketball players wrote a book ent1tled The Pr1vate L1fe of D K Rogers Wh1Ch to date has sold over two m11l1on cop1es Com1ng up next was Trav1s Robertson our old fr1end Demon He 1S head man at Robertson s Grocery Empormm but a few n1ghts each week he manages to go fox hunt1ng At least that 15 what he tells h1S w1fe the former Patr1c1a Evans of Fort Worth I doubted very much 1f the next boy would ever be successful but there was h1s name M1ke Robertson M1ke 1S a famous comedxan and has made anumber of mov1es but h1s heart st1ll belongs to Chau cer and Whan that Apr1lle Lt Col Reagan Rogers was next 1r l1ne Reagan Jomed the army soon after graduat1on and has stead1ly worked h1s way up He marr1ed the former Betty Jean Dodson after severalfusses and spats, and they now have four lovely daughters all red headed ' ' ' ll I9 . . , . . , ,, ,, . . . . . . . CLASS PROP!-IECY Early one morn1ng 1n January 1960 I drove down to the Malakoff post 0ff1CE After narrowly m1ss1ng several streaml1ned streetcars, I made my way 1nto the beaut1ful new post off1ce bu11d1ng, located 1n the center of th1s bustl1ng metropol1s of 100,000 and asked Postmaster Truelove for my ma1l The only ma1l l rece1ved that morn1ng was the 1960 1ssue of Who s Who 1n Amer1ca Here was a good opportun1ty I thought to f1nd out what had becomd of all my old school chums of the class of 48 So I went home made myself comfortable 1n an easy cha1r and opened the book The f1rst name I saw was that of Alton Allen He and Jacquel1ne were happ1ly marr1ed and the wery proud 1f bew1ldered parents of 12 ch1ldren Alton 1S manager of the new 50,000 watt Stat1OnK A N D He IS also ass1stant basketball coach at M H S Joe Barnett Jr 1S next Joe 1S dr1v1ng a bus between Tyler and to court Kat1e and ask her for the f1ft1eth t1me to marry h1m Mary Barnette has changed her name to Magee and she and her husband are now runn1ng the Crescent He1ghts Nlght Club Pattye Cole hasn t marr1ed yet and 1S teach1ng school 1n Tr1n1dad As soon as school 15 out each year Pattye aga1n starts the nearest th1ng to perpetual mot1on yet developed her chase after Claud1e Buddy Crawford and Betty Jean Dodson fmally got marr1ed When Buddy 1511 f playmg pro1ess1onal football for the Athens Armad1lloes he and Squat run the newly decorated Rodeo Cafe wh1ch now seats 2.000 people eas1ly Charlene Douglas IS a model for Ne1man Marcus 1n Dallas Her spec1alty 1S bath1ng su1ts Her p1cture frequently appears n popular magazmes and espec1ally 1n Esqu1re B111 W Johnson has taken over the coachmg dut1es of H C J C 1n Athens Last year h1s M H S I I I I , . CLASS PROPHECY Dorrls Rose was a br1de only two weeks after graduat1on The lucky boy was Shorty Brannon They moved to Austral1a where Mr Brannon ra1ses sheep and Mrs Brannon looks after the1r two sons two daughters and Z4 dogs Next came C P Summerall C P 1sa successful farmer on Ter rap1n R1dge Aslde from farmmg C P runs a st1ll 1n the Tr1n1ty R1ver Bottom mak1ng that good old mounta1n dew He hasn t marr1ed yet but has been courung Laverne Tapley s1nce h1gh school days H would do well to get Laverne She won the JValk1ng Man contest back 1n 48 and st1ll has qu1te a few of the pr1zes The next wasn t a name but a number 1876529 Th1s number be longed to one Lester Red Tanner Red was fmally caught shoot1ng ducks out of season and got twenty years at S1ng Smg Ruby Jean Thomas 1S head of the comrnerc1al department at Cres each d1vorce she keeps her ma1den name to keep from offend1ng any ex husband As I came near to the end of the book I found the name of John Farl Whlte He and h1s ch11d br1de MarJor1e Ingram 11ve 1n New York C1ty where they make an excellent l1v1ng sell1ng the Brooklyn Br1dge to tour1sts The last name 1n the book was that of W1ll1e Mae Whlte W1ll1e Mae now l1ves 1n Dallas where she plays professmnal basketball She st1ll has h1ghhopes that Glover McCl1ntock w1ll soon pop the ques t1on As I closed the book I pondered for a wh1le on what Fate had ach1eved for the class of 48 Then I drove out to the a1rport got 1nto my new Jet propelled P 280 and breezed back to my Off1C8 1n the Emp1re State Bu11d1ng 1n New York I I - O I , . .
