CLASS PROP!-IECY Early one morn1ng 1n January 1960 I drove down to the Malakoff post 0ff1CE After narrowly m1ss1ng several streaml1ned streetcars, I made my way 1nto the beaut1ful new post off1ce bu11d1ng, located 1n the center of th1s bustl1ng metropol1s of 100,000 and asked Postmaster Truelove for my ma1l The only ma1l l rece1ved that morn1ng was the 1960 1ssue of Who s Who 1n Amer1ca Here was a good opportun1ty I thought to f1nd out what had becomd of all my old school chums of the class of 48 So I went home made myself comfortable 1n an easy cha1r and opened the book The f1rst name I saw was that of Alton Allen He and Jacquel1ne were happ1ly marr1ed and the wery proud 1f bew1ldered parents of 12 ch1ldren Alton 1S manager of the new 50,000 watt Stat1OnK A N D He IS also ass1stant basketball coach at M H S Joe Barnett Jr 1S next Joe 1S dr1v1ng a bus between Tyler and to court Kat1e and ask her for the f1ft1eth t1me to marry h1m Mary Barnette has changed her name to Magee and she and her husband are now runn1ng the Crescent He1ghts Nlght Club Pattye Cole hasn t marr1ed yet and 1S teach1ng school 1n Tr1n1dad As soon as school 15 out each year Pattye aga1n starts the nearest th1ng to perpetual mot1on yet developed her chase after Claud1e Buddy Crawford and Betty Jean Dodson fmally got marr1ed When Buddy 1511 f playmg pro1ess1onal football for the Athens Armad1lloes he and Squat run the newly decorated Rodeo Cafe wh1ch now seats 2.000 people eas1ly Charlene Douglas IS a model for Ne1man Marcus 1n Dallas Her spec1alty 1S bath1ng su1ts Her p1cture frequently appears n popular magazmes and espec1ally 1n Esqu1re B111 W Johnson has taken over the coachmg dut1es of H C J C 1n Athens Last year h1s M H S I I I I , .
