My final message to you, the members of the class of 1944, is written in a period of conflict such as the world has never before known. Under the impact of war, you have carried on with courage and determination to your goal. You have reached commencement--not the end, but the beginning. Today it is the obligation of each one of us to decide how best we can serve our country, whether et home, at school, in the factory, or in the armed ser- vices. Never believe that what an individual does is not important. It will be the weight of each one of us, thrown on the right side, that will bring about victory. Tomorrow, when that victory is won, there will be an even greater obligation before us. The end of the war will not be an end but a beginning. It is for us ' 0 vow that these sacrifices shall not this time have been in vain. It is for us to bring about a new birth of freedom, not only for this nation but for all mankind It is for us who know what democracy means to determine that government of the people, by the people, and for the people shall not perish from the earth. When the challenge comes, how will you throw your weight?
