Not unlike the pirates of olden times, we, the 1951 Buccaneers have also been known for our worthy deeds. Many of the goals that have been set by our predecessors have been achieved during our high school years. Some contributions in all sports, In e scholastic fxelds may go down ln the log books as outstanding to encourage our successors toward equal and higher standards We are now ready to em bark on the Sea of Life leaving behlnd us all that has been accomplished thus far Some of us will sail on to greater challenges and others will drift idly as life passes us by but whatever the future may hold for us we know that these experiences we have gamed as Buccaneers will be the happiest and most profitable ones of all 4'5 .fl Il 5 1 C A Q h C Q, i I' t S A Il d p th . u. in it rrr r ,W a u 14 STANLEY GLOSSER JAMES HENRY Faculty Advisor Editor-in-Chief PHOTOGRAPHY Agnes Green, Dianne West, Martha Blanton, Barbara Todt, James Holmes, Allan Harris, Chairman. Well, nothing to do put pick up all the tiny grains of sand and put them back in their proper places. As we let these tiny particles slip through our fingers, we see that we launched our careers as freshmen under Captain Buddy' Harris and his crewmen which consisted of Charlie Hartung, Madeline Eisenbrey, and Sandra McClelland. Lending a greatly needed helping hand were Mrs. Ethel Graham and Mr. Warren Pelton. As skippers of our ship, they supervised the selling of magazines to help us raise money for our Junior-Senior prom. When we were yet babes, -we selected our colors, pink, blue, and silver, our flower, the rose and our motto, Plus Ultra or the translation This far and farther. Accidents will happen and they did. An all-girl crew was cast and taking the leading role was Madeline Eisenbrey and acting as her under-studies were Mary Helen Raines, Carole Eason and Patty Kissam. During this year we were caught in a storm of getting acquainted with Senior High ways and customs. Helping us to steer our course straight were Mrs. Margaret Mertz and Mr. George Herndon. Enthusiasm ran riot during our Junior year what with the approach- ing prom and the many other various activities that go to make up the task of becoming grown-up and being Sophisticated Seniors. Charlie Hartung was handed the gavel and his right hand men were Bill Bazemore, Elaine Thomas, and Stanley Bornmann. Our biggest grain of sand that year was the getting up of a little shin-dig called the Junior- Senior prom that was held at the Princess Issena on April 8th. Along with most of the Juniors, Miss Rosa Mahaffey and Mr. Raymond Johnson-burg steered our little 'get-to-gether'-still speaking of the prom-to a real success. The final and most lasting memory of all is that of our Senior Year. It is one-sadder in some respects and yet happier in others. For many of us it means the end of our school days but still again to some it means only a stepping stone to higher education and more happy school days. Carrying the heaviest cargo was Eugene Dubberly and straining under a smaller load was Hollie Phillips. Barbara Kuhn kept the log and Stanley Bornmann handled the loot under the able assistance of Mrs. Rebecca Parker and Mr. V. P. McClintock. As we replace the last particles of sand we see that these are the largest and most treasured among all the rest. We danced the 'sailor's hornpipef meaning the Senior Formal, at the Palmetto Club on December 15th when the Senior Superlativesx were announced. The Crooning Crew staged a Christmas Pageant, while some of the others acted as Indians in the Thespian's first play, Ramona. One of the largest and most remembered grains of sand represents Homecoming and all its festivities. Elaine Thomas reigned as queen and chosen to act as her king was James Henry. February 7th and the Bay Street Auditorium was the site of the comedy Our Miss Brooks which was sponsored by the entire crew. Following this play, our famous Dramatics Arts Department presented the Pepper Pot Plays. Before our picnic, we committed mutiny and left the ship for one day. Once on our way again we find that the largest social event of the year was the annual J unior-Senior prom which was given to us by the Junior Class. During the year there were all sorts of sports activities that our big Buccaneers took part in. Some of which included football, basketball, baseball, track and swimming. Our journey's end drew near on the beach somewhere where our battered ship saw it's last days at sunrise on June 3rd-it was Baccalaureate. Then on June 5th our last 'port was sighted at the Peabody Auditorium. Fellow ship-mates, as we say Bon-voyage, we all must agree that it has been a REAL four years together.
