Asha-way-buc, the Chip- pewa word for changing times, has a special mean- ing for Maine West's 2,465 students this year. Many changes have occurred in the school district this year. Maine North was closed, a new superintendent took over, enrollment continued to decline, a new school spirit was evident, and the yearbook has changed too. ln keeping with the tone of the year, this year's Legend is dedicated to presenting the changes of the school year. A major change, the renewed spirit, led us to bring some authenticity to the Legend of the Maine West Warriors. 4 Introduction VH Pictured at right is Erwin Holmes, a full-blooded Chippewa who has helped us in our attempt at authenticity. All Chippewa words in this edition have been translated and phonetically spelled by Erwin because the Chippewa never had a written language. Above, Dr. John T. Murphy, the new superinten- dent, is welcomed to Maine West by Tom Wilhelm '84, Mr. James L. Coburn, Student Coun- cil President Kathy Lyons '82, Laura Larsen '85 and Natalie Reda '84.

Juniors Win Volkswagen Push The Pep Rally was held in the Stadium on Thursday, Oc- tober 15. Most of the Class Competitions were decided during the rally.
