ENGLISH No matter how great or extensive a person ' s knowledge may be or how wide have been his experiences, he will not be of any value to himself or to others around him unless he has the ability to clearly communicate his ideas so that others may appreciate and derive benefit from them. It is for this reason that Maine West requires all students to acquire three units of English before graduation. This is also why the Maine West English depart- ment has taken great care to secure personnel of the highest caliber. In the regular and accelerated programs students are taught through experience how to read, write, create, analyze, discuss, and, generally, communicate intelligently. W. Ludolph chairman iljik ll B. DRIVER EDUCATION The Maine West driver education department offers two courses whose goals are to instill prop- er human attitudes and skills necessary for safe operation of an automobile. The first of these, safety education, is a graduation requirement for all students. It teaches necessary laws and basic driving techniques in the classroom. Driver edu- cation gives the student practical behind-the-wheel training as well as more specific classroom study.
