Art Art education gives students the practice and development they need to meet the challenges and opportunities of creativity. Since creativity involves perception, sensitivity, and awareness, the Art De- partment considers these points as important study guides for art students at Maine West. Perception is the ability to see in depth, in perspective, and in total and complete relationships. It purposely develops the intuitive faculties of the student after he has been presented with many types of stimuli from all directions. Sensitivity is the understand- ing of good design and good craftsmanship. This involves the development of all of a student's senses and emotions. Awareness is the ability to recognize and understand different moods and feel- ings of past experiences and present situations. Through conditioning the mind in all of its poten- tials, the student becomes more aware. These con- cepts are obtained and realized in Maine West's art classes-Art I-IV, Crafts I and II, Sketching, Stagecrafters, and a School Project Workshop. L. Kalbfell F. Ringl R. Meyer, Chairman E. Business Education Many students look for jobs right after graduation from Maine West. The Business Education Department's aim is to enable these people to transact their own business matters, to give them a good foundation for advanced work, and 'to prepare them for a good job. The courses offered in the Business Education Depart- ment accomplish these aims. Students may take Personal Typing, Typing I and II, General Business, Clerical Book- keeping, Commercial Law, Stenography I and II, and Accounting I and II.
