I welcome this opportunity given me by Mr. Walker and the Legend staff to say bon voyage to our seniors and to express my appreciation to the entire student body for their splendid coopera- tion in making this, our first year at Maine West. a most successful one. By diligence and hard work you, as students, have indicated your concern for a sound education: an education which will enable you to participate as articulate and discriminating citizens in the diffi- cult years that lie ahead. I know you share my sen-. timents in saying thanks to our faculty for provid- ing this kind of educational climate. The results of our first year hold promise for a good future at Maine West. I know that our teach- ing staff will continue to provide stimulating experi- ences for you, the studentsg and you, in turn, will profit from these experiences. The tremendous advances of science and tech- nology presage a better tomorrow-less physical work, more leisure, more luxury, a longer and hap- pier life for all, in short, a society that can do much to help the individual develop to his maximum po- tential by freeing him from the drudgery of the work-a-day world. Yet, if our citizenry is not literate, vigorous, and deeply appreciative of the democratic ideal, the future that could be ours may never be. Therefore. let us firmly resolve to accept the challenge of the future and work steadfastly to improve and protect our way of life. Ralph J. Frost, Jr., Principal I RALPH J.
