English and Drama Departments stress variety 1. The English Department of Maine South, which has experienced much growth in current years, has once again provided students with a va- riety of courses. Freshmen students were placed in one of three levels of English I according to their ability. The elective system, which allowed students to choose two semester courses, proved successful for soph- omores and upperlcassmen. In ad- dition, the accelerated program gave students an interesting chal- lenge. Filmstrips, field trips and classroom projects enhanced the quality of education offered by the English Department. Equally, the Speech and Drama Department offered a variety of in- triguing classes to students. In the past thirteen years, this depart- ment has undergone an increase in the enrollment ir1 Drama courses. New radio equipment, too, provided students with the best education. In short, this department strove to meet the students' needs in Speech and Drama. Ls Egg. 53722 Valli'-A f Q., ul 'El'-itll L' 87

, I Students gum all W2 language skills Without a doubt, the Language De- partment of Maine South offered a wide selection of foreign languages to students. Courses in French, Italian, Spanish, German and Latin were taught. Moreover, all classes enjoyed activities such as films, field trips related to a particular language, in-class skits employing foreign dialogue, and individual as- signments. Also, the Language Lab supplemented actual classwork for first year language students, and, in doing so, helped students with pronunciation. Thus, the Language Department sought not only to teach various languages but also to fami- liarize students with the cultures of nations throughout the world. v' IX f . - I, -...is-V uCtAN AT!-4lNT'oUE 1.
