English and Drama Departments stress variety 1. The English Department of Maine South, which has experienced much growth in current years, has once again provided students with a va- riety of courses. Freshmen students were placed in one of three levels of English I according to their ability. The elective system, which allowed students to choose two semester courses, proved successful for soph- omores and upperlcassmen. In ad- dition, the accelerated program gave students an interesting chal- lenge. Filmstrips, field trips and classroom projects enhanced the quality of education offered by the English Department. Equally, the Speech and Drama Department offered a variety of in- triguing classes to students. In the past thirteen years, this depart- ment has undergone an increase in the enrollment ir1 Drama courses. New radio equipment, too, provided students with the best education.
