Gymnastzcs team has qualtfters for the state Many long hours of practicing were necessary in order to develop the skill of the precision routines per- formed by the girls on Maine South's girls' gymnastics team. Under the di- rection of coach Miss Goll, South's girls were able to prove themselves very competitive to many opponents. With the help of many talented in- dividuals, Maine South placed six- teenth in the state out of 61 quali- fying schools. Five girls on the team qualified to compete in the state meet, while Janet Krueger was able to place eighth in the state in vault- ing. All in all, the girls' gymnastics team performed Well. Girls volley to super-sectionals Maine South has another winning girls' team in volleyball. Advancing to the super-sectional match with a 12-1 record were seniors Sue Leo- nard, Peggy Lukens, Amy Pontow and Mey Seng. Although each tour- nament team player gave a fine per- formance, the individual skills of the four seniors will be greatly missed next year. Because both the varsity and JV teams were primarily young this year, the excitement and valu- able experience of being involved with a high ranking winning team will surely stay with each girl through next year's season. With this spirit and the guidance of Ms. Voelz, Hawk's goals will be met. I . ' , 1 .f.. -- ' '1! ABOVE: Terry Milligan was successful in spiking against Glenbrook North's double block. Girls' badminton places first in conference meet The 1976-1977 badminton season was very successful for our girl's team. Due to many strong returning players, the girls were able to finish with a 7-0 dual meet record in the C.S.L. As a result of much practice, the team won all their meets decisive- ly and proved very competitive to the other teams. Also, this year's J.V. squad was able to finish strongly like the varsity with a first place in their division. With many unde- feated players at the conference level, our Hawks also took first place in the district meet. Obviously, with the outstanding performances of many, Coach Albrecht was very pleased. . , l KJ' ABOVE: Mary Depke contributed much to the success of the team. ABOVE RIGHT: Badminton Team: Top: Asst.
