Swim team is second in state Under the fine direction of Coach Butler, Maine South's girls swim team again upheld its high standard of excellence. After much practice and dedication, the girls went off to win all but one of their swim meets and receive recognition from all their opponents. In addition, South's girl swimmers were able to take second place in the I.H.S.A. state meet very closely behind the first place team. Strongly individual performances were made by senior captain Kim Lindstrom, Virginia De- Young and Patty Pence, while the team took first place in both the dis- trict and conference meet. South truly had a winning swim team. ABOVE LEFT: Girls' Varsity Swim Team: Top: M. Scotese, J. Briars, T. Lusignan, D. Conway, M. Nicolau, K. Widuch, D. Engleson, K. Richter, P. Pence. Third: K. Girls' tennis boasts of a very consistent season Both the varsity and JV teams had a stable and consistent year with an overall record of 5-5 for varsity and 8-2 for JV. Although the girls fought some tough teams, they gained strength to overpower their weaker opponents. All varsity players, both singles and doubles, had either a 3-4 or 4-3 record. On the other hand, JV was undefeated in South Divi- sion Conference Competition. Their strength was divided between each player, for every JV player finished with at least a 6-0 record. Under the coaching of Miss Albrecht and Mr. Lange, the girls' tennis team held together with an inner strength. e .1 fi: 1,5 'Q . .ni 142.114-' -ag.: . .,. f'd?r41i vi iii ' I I-,.., . :J 1 1 ', , . -qv-w,,.1 1-fl J Y l r , ' ' 'wif -aw '. - .. 4. Girls volley to super-sectionals Maine South has another winning girls' team in volleyball. Advancing to the super-sectional match with a 12-1 record were seniors Sue Leo- nard, Peggy Lukens, Amy Pontow and Mey Seng. Although each tour- nament team player gave a fine per- formance, the individual skills of the four seniors will be greatly missed next year. Because both the varsity and JV teams were primarily young this year, the excitement and valu- able experience of being involved with a high ranking winning team will surely stay with each girl through next year's season. With this spirit and the guidance of Ms. Voelz, Hawk's goals will be met. I . ' , 1 .f.. -- ' '1! ABOVE: Terry Milligan was successful in spiking against Glenbrook North's double block.
