Girls' tennis boasts of a very consistent season Both the varsity and JV teams had a stable and consistent year with an overall record of 5-5 for varsity and 8-2 for JV. Although the girls fought some tough teams, they gained strength to overpower their weaker opponents. All varsity players, both singles and doubles, had either a 3-4 or 4-3 record. On the other hand, JV was undefeated in South Divi- sion Conference Competition. Their strength was divided between each player, for every JV player finished with at least a 6-0 record. Under the coaching of Miss Albrecht and Mr. Lange, the girls' tennis team held together with an inner strength. e .1 fi: 1,5 'Q . .ni 142.114-' -ag.: . .,. f'd?r41i vi iii ' I I-,.., . :J 1 1 ', , . -qv-w,,.1 1-fl J Y l r , ' ' 'wif -aw '. - .. 4. Volleyball basketball remain popular intramurals Basketball and volleyball intra- murals proved to be successful and rewarding activities sponsored by G.R.A. Not only did the girls get enjoyment out of the many sports offered, but they also received awards ranging from goldfish to golden shut- tlecocks. Of course, meeting new people and learning and improving skills were among the advantages of the girls' intramural program. In basketball and volleyball, competi- tion was divided into three categories of class, all-star and intramural. This year, the freshmen class team was victorious and the all-star team beat the faculty after a close volleyball match. V LEFT: Intramural Basketball All-Stars: Top: L. Vedrine, C. Kopp, K. Swim team is second in state Under the fine direction of Coach Butler, Maine South's girls swim team again upheld its high standard of excellence. After much practice and dedication, the girls went off to win all but one of their swim meets and receive recognition from all their opponents. In addition, South's girl swimmers were able to take second place in the I.H.S.A. state meet very closely behind the first place team. Strongly individual performances were made by senior captain Kim Lindstrom, Virginia De- Young and Patty Pence, while the team took first place in both the dis- trict and conference meet. South truly had a winning swim team. ABOVE LEFT: Girls' Varsity Swim Team: Top: M. Scotese, J. Briars, T. Lusignan, D. Conway, M. Nicolau, K. Widuch, D. Engleson, K. Richter, P. Pence. Third: K.
