Players smash their opponents The underclass tennis team, with fine standouts, such as Bob Bean and Scott Chamness, produced many out- standing athletes and won many of their meets in the '76 season. Coach Lange agreed that with strong players coming up from this frosh-soph team, South's varsity teams in the future should be extremely tough. Also, some sophomores, such as Tom Wilkas, were able to compete on the varsity squad. In the '76 frosh invi- tational, the two doubles teams won the first place title. Obviously, Maine South was proud of our suc- cessful frosh-soph team. LEFT: Frosh-Soph Tennis.' Top: Coach Lange, D. Osimani, T. Ellsworth, M. Farmer, S. Bloecker, D. Phillips, L. Keenan, Mgr. Freshmen track team dashes to conference tttle The 1976-77 track season was ex- tremely successful for our underclass runners. At all of the meets, oppo- nents found our Hawks very com- petitive, due to many fine athletes, with standouts such as Steve Seran- toni and Gary Schwan. Also, this year's team was boosted by the many talented athletes on the freshman level. With the help of standouts Chris Pelzl and John Baldoni, our Hawks were able to take first place in the conference meet. However, without the performances of all, this fine record could not have been achieved this season. ABOVE RIGHT: Tom Kroeschell, Ken Mrowiec, and Bob Engh competed in the 50 yard dash. A 'G' I 1 M conference title Once again, the fine underclass coaching staff, along with the dedi- cation of the players, has produced another winning baseball team for the frosh-soph level. Coach Kerr was extremely pleased with many of his sophomores and agreed that many of these athletes had great potential as varsity team members. Our fresh- men A team, which had a big turn- out, was able to complete its 1976 season losing only 3 conference games and, as a result, easily won the con- ference title. This winning record was due to the fact that the team finished with a batting average of 346. Also, many of the freshmen com- peted on varsity during the sum- mer leagues. South was certainly proud of these athletes. ABOVE RIGHT: Freshman A Baseball: Top: Coach J. Romes, S. Heinol, M. Paulik, J. Reif, D. Murphy. Middle: R. Rutkowski, D. Szumal, R. Reibel, T.
