Soccer teams get on the ball Both underclass soccer teams at Maine South upheld very fine rec- ords. The sophomores completed their season with a 6-2-6 record. Out of many outstanding -athletes, Bill Shinn was choosen as the Most Val- uable Player while Torn Winkowski, Ron Muck, and John Lincmaier were made tri-captains. For the freshmen level, Mark Dudko was voted captain as Dave Hepburn received the M.V.P. honors. Many fine athletes led this team to a 5-2-1 record, that was recognized by all their oppon- ents. With these performances, South's future varsity teams should prove extremely talented. Obviously, much dedication and hard work went into training these young athletes for competitive soccer at South. ABOVE RIGHT: Frosh Soccer Team: Top: P. Barrera, T. Gauger, J. Dano, S. nderclass cross country endures tough meets The two underclass cross country teams were two of the many frosh- soph teams that showed great poten- tial for the upcoming varsity seasons. The sophomore team, with Most Val- uable Player Dave Mau, finished 6-3 in their conference. Although they had a fine whining record, the sopho- mores had tough competition and did not place in the conference top two. The frosh team showed great promise for the next few years. In their first '76-'77 season the Hawks lost four of their seven losses by five or less points. Their conference record of 4-7 does not really show the quality of the harriers. Coach John Kil- cullen had a great number of boys that should prove to be valuable in upcoming varsity seasons. All in all, the underclass harriers endured many competitive meets.
