nderclass football teams tackle thetr opponents The three underclass football teams showed great promise for the coming varsity years. A fine junior varsity team, led by junior John Van Selow, won their conference, finishing with five wins and no losses. The sophs showed tremendous improve- ment and won the recognition from all of their conference opponents. The sophomores finished with a 6-1 con- ference record, which was good enough to place them second in con- ference behind crosstown rival Maine East, who incidentally gave the Hawks their only loss. South's suc- cess was due mainly to the fine coaching staff which generated enough emotion for the .entire team. The Frosh A and B teams finished the season with a 7-8 record. Though not having a winning year, they showed potential. ABOVE RIGHT: During the Homecoming game, MVP Ken Mrowiek ran against a tough Maine East defensive line. RIGHT: Frosh B: Top: Coach Hester, G. Soccer teams get on the ball Both underclass soccer teams at Maine South upheld very fine rec- ords. The sophomores completed their season with a 6-2-6 record. Out of many outstanding -athletes, Bill Shinn was choosen as the Most Val- uable Player while Torn Winkowski, Ron Muck, and John Lincmaier were made tri-captains. For the freshmen level, Mark Dudko was voted captain as Dave Hepburn received the M.V.P. honors. Many fine athletes led this team to a 5-2-1 record, that was recognized by all their oppon- ents. With these performances, South's future varsity teams should prove extremely talented. Obviously, much dedication and hard work went into training these young athletes for competitive soccer at South. ABOVE RIGHT: Frosh Soccer Team: Top: P. Barrera, T. Gauger, J. Dano, S.
