Many find magazine and News Bureau interesting The Creative Writing magazine of- fered a chance for promising artists and writers to be acknowledged. The title of the magazine, Take A Chance, was known by students as an edition of excellent creative writing. Four editions were produced throughout the seven months, all bearing new and different writings. Submissions of the student body came in and a board of judges had the difficult task of choosing materials for the maga- zine. More pages were added this year to each edition and surprisingly, the cost was much cheaper. A small group of newsmen, known as the News Bureau, gave important school news to the local papers. The UPI machine in V-107 was watched by the News Bureau members who main- tained a bulletin board for news. The creative writing magazine and News Bureau were valuable to all students. 1 I' sh, fii. 1, L41 QQ, -sa 148 ' Q

Southwords provides excellent communications Maine South's student newspaper, Southwords, has continued to in- form students throughout the past year. Factual news stories and sport wrap-ups had to be written. Editori- als and opinion polls as well as car- toons and photos attracted much student interest. Reporters, photog- raphers and cartoonists strived to meet the deadlines of their bi-month- ly paper with the guidance of sponsor Mr. Beatty. Those on the staff who did commendable work were ac- cepted into the literary honorary society, the Quill and Scroll. Along with the help of Mr. Beatty and the talent of the staff, Southwords has again kept up its high standards. 34 LEFT: Publications Photographers: Back: M. Stevenson, R. Black, T. Long, T.
